WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - After a MAC-opening loss to Widener, the Lycoming College football team has won its last four games by a margin of 30.3 points per game heading into a trecherous two-week stretch where it faces two of the top teams in the league, starting with Lebanon Valley on Saturday, Oct. 29, at Arnold Field.

The Warriors (6-1 overall, 4-1 MAC) are looking for their first win over the Flying Dutchmen (5-2 overall, 3-2 MAC) since winning the MAC title in 2008. Lycoming’s defense will continue to lead the way, as the squad leads the MAC in total defense (196.9), rushing defense (64.7), pass defense (132.1) and turnover margin (+2.00).

Lebanon Valley is led by senior running back Ben Guiles, who leads the league with an average of 107.0 yards rushing per game and 13 touchdowns.

Warrior Notes

• Lycoming has now clinched winning records in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2002-03. The Warriors were 6-4 in 2010.

• Sophomore Zack Czap’s 45-yard field goal against Stevenson was the longest in the MAC this year and the longest for the Warriors in more than a decade.

• Czap is tied for fifth in school history with nine field goals made this season, sitting just four from the school record of 13 set by John Phillips in 1990.

• In the past two games, junior Parker Showers has averaged 122 yards and two touchdowns on just 17.5 carries.

• Senior Ray Bierbach is tied for eighth in school history with 13 interceptions in his career.

• Junior Zach Klinger’s school-record string of 201 pass attempts without an interception was snapped at Stevenson.

Scouting Lycoming

During their four-game winning streak, the Warriors have averaged 41.3 points per game, led by a bruising running attack that tacks on 224.2 yards per game and has contributed 13 touchdowns, led by six from junior Parker Showers.

Sophomore Warren Oliver and junior Jarrin Campman have combined for more than 300 yards receiving in the last four games, with Oliver posting two touchdowns and Campman adding one.  Klinger has tossed for 474 yards and four touchdowns during that time.

Defense: 4-3
Although the Warriors gave up a season-high 280 yards of offense at Stevenson, the starting corps allowed just 80 yards in the first three quarters before the Mustangs broke through with two touchdowns and 200 yards in the fourth quarter.

The Warriors continued to play with a balanced defensive attack as 11 players posted at least three tackles in the game and 10 factored in at least one tackle for loss. The team also notched three interceptions and picked up two fumbles for a season-high five turnovers.

Sophomore Kabongo Bukasa earned two sacks in the contest and junior Pat McNamera added two forced fumbles and five tackles while playing both special teams and at linebacker.

Lycoming will benefit from the return of senior linebacker Chris Kish, who sat out the Stevenson game with an injury.

Scouting Lebanon Valley
Offense: Multiple/Pro-Set

With one of the best running backs in school history, the Flying Dutchmen feature one of the best offensive attacks in the league, entering the week second in scoring (37.6), total offense (451.6), rushing offense (200.3) and pass offense (251.3).

Senior Ben Guiles is the leader of the Dutchmen’s rushing attack, leading the league with an average of 107.0 yards per game. He leads the MAC with 13 touchdowns.

To compliment the running game, senior Colt Zarilla is second in the league in passing yards per game (232.1), while he has passed for 15 touchdowns, completed 61.7 percent of his passes and been intercepted just six times.

Senior Tim Picerno is Zarilla’s favorite target, as the receiver averages 5.4 catches and 74.6 yards per game.

Defense: 3-4
The Dutchmen enter the week fifth in the Middle Atlantic Conference in scoring defense (28.7) and total defense (371.1). The Dutchmen are seventh in the league in rushing defense (185.1) and fourth in passing defense (186.0).

Senior defensive end Cory Homer leads the defense with 8.6 tackles per game, which is third in the conference and senior linebacker Jason Gigous is tied for sixth at 7.0 tackles per contest. Homer is also tied for seventh in the league in tackles for loss at 1.21 per contest.

In the secondary, senior Dave Hallinan is 12th in passes defended at 0.86 per contest and he is tied for eighth with 0.29 interceptions per contest.

Streaking
With their current four-game win streak, the Warriors can tie the longest streak during head coach Mike Clark’s four-year tenure. The team won five straight games from Sept. 11-Oct. 16, 2010. During the team’s current streak, the Warriors are outscoring their opponents, 165-44.

Czapped again
Sophomore kicker Zack Czap earned his fourth career Middle Atlantic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week award after booting a MAC season-long 45-yard field goal against Stevenson. Czap’s long boot was the longest field goal for the Warriors in more than a decade and he added a 28-yard field goal in the second half. In addition, Czap was 6-for-6 in extra points. Serving double-duty as the team’s punter, Czap booted two punts for an average of 31.5 yards, placing one inside the 20.

D3Football loves Ray
Senior Ray Bierbach picked up his school-record third D3Football.com Team of the Week award after posting eight tackles and a 63-yard interception return against Wilkes, helping Lycoming to a 40-7 win. Bierbach, who earned six Preseason All-American nods, is the first Warrior to earn three team of the week nods since the award began in 1999 after picking up the award on Oct. 13 and Oct. 20, 2010.  Cameron Coleman ’00, Josh Kleinfelter ’11, Ricky Lanetti, Ryan Repko ’07, Ryan Rupprecht ’02 and Tim Schmidt ’04 each won the award twice in their careers.

A grand accomplishment
Junior Parker Showers enters the game with Lebanon Valley needing just 63 yards rushing to become the 21st player in school history to reach 1,000 in a career. Against Stevenson, Showers became the 38th back to reach 500 yards in a season and he needs just 59 yards to become the 27th in school history to reach 600 in a season.

A good run
Up until a second quarter interception at Stevenson, junior quarterback Zach Klinger’s previous interception came in the fourth quarter of the 2010 meeting with the Dutchmen. In between, the Halifax, Pa., native attempted 201 passes, completed 105 of them and found the end zone nine times.

The winning tradition is back
With the Stevenson win, the Warriors guaranteed their second straight winning campaign. Believe it or not, it would be the first time since 2002-03 that the Warriors pulled off such a feat. From 1975-2003, the Warriors posted 29 straight winning campaigns.
