Warriors sweep tri-meet with King’s and FDU-Florham

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Three members of the Lycoming College swim teams racked up three individual wins and a relay win as the Warriors picked up wins in both men’s and women’s swimming over King’s and FDU-Florham on Wednesday, Jan. 19, in a tri-meet at King’s.

On the women’s side, the Warriors racked up 10 wins in the meet’s 14 races, paced by three individual wins by sophomore Lindsey Hunsicker (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) and senior Stacy Flick (Easton, Pa./Easton Area), as the Warriors downed King’s, 76-42, and handled FDU-Florham, 95-13, to stretch its winning streak to five matches.

Hunsicker posted first-place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:05.83, the 200-yard freestyle, posting a time of 2:07.17 and the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 58.92.

Flick  added wins in the 100-yard breaststroke, posting a time of 1:09.61, the 200-yard breaststroke, coming in with a time of 2:32.92 and the 50-yard freestyle, posting a time of 26.95.

The Warriors (5-3-1 overall, 4-2-1 Commonwealth) started out with a win in the 200-yard medley from the team of senior Meg Emery (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock), freshman Ariel Smith (Hanover Township, Pa./Holy Redeemer), sophomore Hope Weber (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) and Hunsicker

Emery also added a win in the 100-yard backstroke, notching a time of 1:06.60.

Smith finished second in the 50-yard freestyle, posting a time of 28.93, and posted a second-place time of 1:12.68 in the 100-yard breaststroke. Weber also finished second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:07.50.

Senior Melody Johnson (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg South) finished second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:10.27. The Warriors also finished 1-2-3-4 in the 200-yard backstroke, with freshman Jennie Marosits (Mt. Lakes, N.J./Mt. Lakes) leading the way with a time of 2:25.17 and senior Lindsey Stern (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrence) adding a time of 2:33.25 to take second. Sophomore Caitlin DeAngelo (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) took third with a time of 2:37.91 and Johnson rounded out the finish with a time of 2:39.74.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Johnson, DeAngelo, sophomore Elisa Becker (Reston, Va./South Lakes) and Flick rounded out the Warriors’ wins with a time of 1:48.53.

On the men’s side, the Warriors won 12 of the meet’s 14 races, with junior Joe Andrie (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley) posting three individual wins, helping Lycoming post a 78-30 win over King’s and an 89-12 win over FDU-Florham.

Andrie added times of 1:04.06 to win the 100-yard breaststroke, 4:50.03 to take the 400-yard individual medley and 2:21.10 to take the 200-yard breaststroke.

The Warriors (5-3 overall, 5-2 MAC) got out to a good start with a win in the 200-yard medley relay, as the team of freshmen Jack Port (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff), Luke Dohrman (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) and C.J. Arhontakis (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) and Andrie posted a time of 1:50.89.

Junior Myles Biggs (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) notched a time of 11:41.76 to take the 1,000-yard freestyle and he also posted  season-best time of 5:23.65 to win the 500-yard freestyle. Port notched wins with a time of 1:04.36 in the 100-yard backstroke and a season-best time of 2:19.42 in the 200-yard backstroke.

Freshman Zack Brower (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg North) notched a time of 2:00.23 to take the 200-yard freestyle and Arhontakis finished behind him with a time of 2:06.28, taking second. Arhontakis won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.82 and Brower added a time of 52.30 to take the 100-yard freestyle.

Freshman Jake Pelinsky (Southwick, Mass./Westfield) added a time of 2:21.63 to finish just behind Andrie in the 200-yard event.

The Warriors also took the 200-yard freestyle relay, with freshman Christian Baxter (Springfield, Pa./Monsignor Bonner), junior Derek Lupia (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg), Brower and Arhontakis posting a time of 1:36.72.

The Warriors get back in the pool on Saturday with their final dual meet of the season, as they face Arcadia in Middle Atlantic Conference action at 1 p.m. The meet will be Lycoming’s Pink-Out, with proceeds raised from T-shirt sales benefitting Colleges Against Cancer, as well as Senior Day for the Warriors, with the program honoring its five seniors during an intermission.
