Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – After dropping its first match to a tough Scranton team, the Lycoming men’s tennis team rebounded convincingly on Saturday, Sept. 25, as the defending Commonwealth Conference champions downed King’s (Pa.), 9-0, in non-conference action at Bruce Henry Park.
The Warriors (1-1) swept doubles play, with senior Alex Beattie (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) and sophomore Jason Mifsud (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) posting an 8-1 win over Tim Carroll and Tony Bevevino, the brotherly duo of sophomore David and senior Robert Brown (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) posting an 8-0 win over Mike Steinberger and Jake Rohring at No. 2 and the team of senior Phillip Shannon (Cogan Station, Pa./Williamsport) and sophomore Cody Heffner (Williamsport, Pa./Muncy) posting an 8-2 win over Nick Conte and P.T. Romano at No. 3.
In singles play, Robert Brown knocked off Carroll, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 1 and Beattie added a 6-1, 6-2 win over Steinberger at No. 2. At No. 3, Mifsud downed Bevevino, 7-5, 6-3 and David Brown posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Conte. Shannon downed Rohring, 4-6, 6-2, 10-8 at No. 5 and Heffner added a 6-2, 6-4 decision against Chris DiMino.
King’s falls to 0-1.
The Warriors get back on Sunday, as they travel to Misericordia for a 12 p.m. match.
