Men's tennis rolls over Arcadia 8-1

GLENSIDE, Pa. – Sweeping through all six flights of singles action, the Lycoming College men’s tennis team defeated Arcadia University 8-1 on the road on Saturday, April 17. Doubles partners Alex Beattie and Robert Brown won both their doubles match and their respective singles contests.

Brown needed three sets to beat his first-flight opponent, getting the win 6-1, 4-6, 10-5. In the second flight of singles, Beattie took control early and only dropped one game, winning 6-0, 6-1. In the third flight of singles action, Jason Mifsud won his match up 6-3, 6-3.

The fourth flight may have been the most exciting contest of the day, with David Brown narrowly winning 5-7, 6-2, 10-6, dropping a set for the first time this season. Phillip Shannon won his fifth-flight tilt 6-4, 6-3 while Cody Heffner took his sixth-flight opponent 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles, Beattie and Robert Brown won 8-3 in the first flight and Mifsud and David Brown needed a tiebreaker to win in the second flight 8-8, 7-2.

Lycoming (6-1, 4-0) returns to its home courts for a match up that will feature the top two teams in the Commonwealth Conference when Elizabethtown College comes to Williamsport on Sunday, April 18. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
