Men's tennis picks up first win of the 2010 season

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Behind double victories from Alex Beattie and David Brown, the Lycoming College men’s tennis team defeated Commonwealth Conference opponent Lebanon Valley College 7-2 for its first victory of the 2010 season on Thursday, April 1.

Beattie picked up a 6-2, 6-2 victory in the second flight of singles action and paired up with Jason Mifsud to grab a 9-7 victory in the first flight of doubles. David Brown won the fourth flight of singles in a tiebreak, 6-2, 7-6 (9-7) and partnered with brother Robert  for an 8-2 victory in the second flight of doubles.

In the fifth flight of singles, Phillip Shannon took a 6-2, 7-5 win while freshman Cody Heffner squeaked out a tiebreaker victory, 6-2, 7-6, 9-7.

Lycoming is back on the court Tuesday, April 6 when it competes on the road against Commonwealth foe Messiah College. The first match is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
