WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Over the course of the Lycoming College football team’s 59-year history, dating back to 1947, the Warriors have played Albright College 50 times, more than any other school in the program’s history. So it is only fitting that on Saturday, the Warriors and Lions will meet for the 51st time on Homecoming at Albright, as the Warriors look for their fourth straight win.
The two teams carry with them the top offenses in the Middle Atlantic Conference, with Albright (2-2 overall, 0-1 MAC) leading the league with an average of 35.8 points per game and Lycoming (3-1 overall, 1-0 MAC) second at 28.5 points per game. Both teams have ate up ground so far this season, with Albright averaging a gaudy 415.2 yards per game and Lycoming close behind at 395.2 yards per contest.
Warrior Notes
• Senior
Josh Kleinfelter leads the MAC and is second nationally in rushing, averaging 177.25 yards per game.
• Kleinfelter is 105 yards away from the school’s career rushing record of 3,267 set by Brian Thompson from 1995-98.
• With 709 yards through four games, Kleinfelter is 18th in the school’s single-season record book, just 124 yards from the top 10.

Josh Kleinfelter continued to place himself among the nation’s elite, as the running back rolled up his second 200-yard game of the season, racing for 216 yards and two touchdowns to help the Lycoming College football team win its Middle Atlantic Conference opener, 31-24, over King’s on Saturday at David Person Field.
Kleinfelter led the Warriors (3-1 overall, 1-0 MAC), as he bolted for 130 yards and one of his touchdowns in the second half while the Warriors rolled for a season-high 489 yards of offense. In the process, Kleinfelter became the second back in Lycoming’s history to reach 3,000 career yards and he moved to 105 yards of Brian Thompson’s school record of 3,267 yards set from 1995-98.
Meanwhile, sophomore quarterback
Zach Klinger provided a welcome compliment, tossing for a career-high 230 yards and two touchdowns on 14-of-22 passing. Senior
Ryan Wagaman caught five passes for 110 yards, marking the third straight time the wideout surpassed 100 yards against the Monarchs (0-4 overall, 0-0 MAC).
The Monarchs drew first blood with a 37-yard field goal from Ryan Cain with 1:55 left in the first quarter, as the Warriors turned the ball over each of their first two drives on interceptions, with the second setting up the field goal.
However, a 14-play, 52-yard drive ended in a 35-yard field goal from senior #T.J. Chiarolanza#, starting a 31-10 run by Lycoming that put it firmly in control of the game.
Junior
Chris Kish led the Warriors’ defense with 11 tackles, 0.5 for loss and an interception. Junior

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Junior running back
Josh Kleinfelter scored the lone touchdown for Lycoming College as the Warriors fell 26-7 against Albright College.
Kleinfelter scored his two-yard touchdown run with 8:05 remaining in the third quarter to keep Lycoming within striking distance, down 19-7.
Lycoming drove down the field, taking 3:15 off the clock on nine plays and went 52 yards to set up the touchdown. The Warriors started with good field position after forcing a Lions’ punt, beginning their drive on the Lycoming 48-yard line.
In the drive,
Colin Dwyer utilized three different receivers, tossing Kleinfelter a six-yard pass to get to the Albright 30-yard line. Dwyer also connected on a three-yard pass with
Ryan Wagaman and a six-yarder to
Brad Shellenberger.
The Lions closed out the game, though, with Tanner Kelly finding Nate Romig for a 29-yard touchdown.
Albright scored just 1:30 into the game after Kelly, who passed for 393 yards and three touchdowns, tossed a 64-yard touchdown pass, igniting the Lions, who scored 19 first-half points. Scott Pillar had a huge day for the Lions, posting seven catches for 170 yards to go with two touchdowns.
In the pocket, Dwyer threw for 109 yards, completing 15-of-31 pass attempts. Kleinfelter was the leading rusher with 60 yards and Wagaman added eight catches for 68 yards.
Defensively,
Chuck Bellitto led Lycoming in tackles with eight, including seven solo stops. Linebacker
Anthony Marascio made seven tackles and was a force in the Albright backfield, dropping the Lions’ for eight yards on three tackles for a loss. He also forced a fumble, which was recovered by Tom Bennie.
Scouting Lycoming
Offense: Multiple/Pro-Style
In the past three games, the Lycoming offense has averaged 32.3 points per game and rolled up more than 400 yards twice. Along the way, the offense has turned the ball over four times and currently sit 17th in the nation in turnover margin.
Senior
Josh Kleinfelter has led the way, as the running back is currently second nationally with his 177.25 yards per game. The Warrior running game is the best in the MAC and 23rd nationally, averaging 228.0 yards per contest.
Sophomore
Zach Klinger has steadily improved in the passing department, as he tossed for a career-high 230 yards and two touchdowns against King’s. Senior
Ryan Wagaman has also quietly climbed the conference rankings, moving into second with his average of 66.75 receiving yards per game.
Defense: 4-3
The Warriors’ signature hard-edged defense is once again currently among the best in the MAC, sitting second with an average of 20.5 points allowed per game.
The rushing defense, specifically, has started to truly shine, with opponents averaging just 69.75 yards per game, which leads the MAC and is 13th in the nation.
In response to the lack of a running game, though, opponents have turned to the air and averaged 221.0 yards per game, which is seventh in the league. The secondary has also been busy, as senior safety
Chuck Bellitto leads the Warriors and is tied for ninth in the MAC in tackles with 29. Junior safety

Scouting Albright
Offense: Multiple
After reaching the quarterfinals of the 2009 NCAA Division III playoffs, Albright’s offense continues to roll, as it leads the MAC with its average of 35.8 points and 415.2 yards per game.
Junior Josan Holmes leads the Lions, as he averages 111.2 rushing yards per game. His eight touchdowns help him lead the conference in scoring and have also helped Albright turn in the most efficient red zone offense in the league, scoring on 17-of-18 chances from inside the 20-yard line.
Sophomore Adam Galczynski has also helped the Lions maintain the most efficient passing attack in the MAC, as he leads the league with a 151.1 rating. With a completion rate of 61.5 percent, Galczynski has tossed for 484 yards and freshman Ben Schaffle has also seen action behind center in all four games, passing for 235 yards and completing 59 percent of his passes.
Defense: Multiple
The Albright defense currently sits seventh in the league, allowing 29.2 points per game and sixth at 384.2 yards allowed per game. The Lions, thanks to two wins where they scored 95 points, have forced opponents to gain yards through the air, allowing 234.5 yards per game passing.
Junior Ryan Ott has led the Lions’ defense, as he currently sits eighth in the league in tackles, averaging 7.3 per game.
In the secondary, junior Matt Bergery is tied for second with Lycoming sophomore Matt Talerico in passes defended, averaging 1.75 per contest and junior Joe Arneth is second in the league in interceptions with two.
History In The Making
With each carry, senior
Josh Kleinfelter is marching towards history. Against King’s on Sept. 25, he became the all-time leader in rushing attempts, passing Brian Thompson’s record of 649 set from 1995-98. Now Kleinfelter is 105 yards shy of the career rushing record of 3,267 yards set by Thompson.
As if those marks weren’t enough, the 5-10 running back became the second player in school history to reach 3,000 career yards against King’s and he became the all-time leader in regular-season rushing yards against Ithaca, as he passed Tim Deasey’s mark of 2,868 yards set from 1998-01. Thompson ran for more than 700 yards in nine postseason games. Kleinfelter has posted 3,162 career yards with 3,113 coming during the regular season.

Chris Kish each earned mention on the Middle Atlantic Conference Honor Roll for their part in the Lycoming College football team’s 31-24 win over King’s on Oct. 2.
Kleinfelter crossed 200 yards of all-purpose yardage for the third straight game, posting a season-high 216 yards on 29 carries. He scored twice to move into fifth in school history with 23 touchdowns on runs of three and 11 yards. Kleinfelter ran 17 times in the second half for 130 yards and he broke five runs of 10 or more yards, including a season-long of 54 on his first run of the second half, his longest carry since a 64-yard rush against FDU-Florham on Nov. 1, 2008.
Kish posted a team- and career-high 11 tackles in the win, adding 0.5 for loss and one interception on a nice diving play in the first half. Kish, a junior linebacker, was a pivotal part of a Lycoming defense that posted six tackles for a loss.
How It’s Gone
The Albright and Lycoming rivalry is now on its 51st meeting in the last 63 years. The Lions dominated the series early in its history, winning 10 straight games from 1968-77, but after that, the Warriors embarked on an even more impressive run, posting a 24-0-1 run from 1978 to 2003. Since then, the Lions have won five of the last seven meetings.
Conference Openers
Since joining the MAC in 1958, the Warriors have accumulated a 30-21-1 (.587) record in conference road openers. Head coach
Mike Clark has won both his conference road openers, beating Widener in 2008 and King’s in 2009.
