Meet the Coaches:
Mike Clark is finishing his second season as Lycoming’s head football coach. His career record stands at 10-10 overall and 7-6 in the MAC. During his rookie campaign, he led the Warriors to a 7-4 overall record, 5-2 mark in the Middle Atlantic Conference and a berth in the 2008 NCAA Division III playoffs. He also led Lycoming to a share of the 2008 conference title. He is a 1993 graduate of Lycoming, where he played and coached under former coach Frank Girardi.
Rich Moscha is concluding his eighth season at the helm of the Devils’ football program. He has a career record of 20-59. Entering this season, Moscha brought in one of the biggest recruiting classes with 72 freshmen added to the roster. Prior to taking over as head coach, he spent four seasons as the team’s offensive coordinator.
The Series
The Warriors and Devils are squaring off for the 24th time, with Lycoming holding an 18-5 advantage, including three straight wins. Since 2000, the Warriors hold a 7-2 advantage in the series.
Last season, Lycoming dominated on offense, pulling out a 48-28 victory on the road. Senior quarterback Colin Dwyer threw four touchdown passes, helping Lycoming to amass 449 yards of total offense, including 178 on the ground from junior running back Josh Kleinfelter. Sophomore wide out Ryan Wagaman hauled in three of Dwyer’s four touchdown passes.
The Warriors played nearly a perfect game, committing zero turnovers, while recovering one fumble and coming up with two interceptions. Ben Rosa led the defense with 10 total tackles, including two sacks. Defensive backs coach, and then senior captain, Nick Reese had one of the interceptions, as did Scott Kish.
Today’s game marks the final home game for the 2009 season. Fourteen seniors will be playing in their last game on David Person Field for the Blue and Gold. Prior to the game, those seniors will be recognized.
The Lycoming College sports information department would also like to recognize those senior who help behind the scenes. In the sports information department, Jordan Hall and Chrisi Karr will be working their final games in the press box.
In the athletic training room, Kevin Devenney, Samantha Ruby and Amanda Clouse will complete their final fall season for the Lycoming athletic training staff.
Lycoming’s Last Game
Last time out, the Warriors were the victims of a late Lebanon Valley push. After leading 14-3 going into half time, the Dutchmen rallied for the victory 31-21.
Dwyer wrapped the day up with 209 passing yards and two touchdowns, completing 18 of his 32 pass attempts. Wagaman caught both of Dwyer’s touchdown passes while picking up 83 yards on four catches. Dixon was the top receiver, hauling in six catches for 48 yards.
On defense, three Warriors reached double digits in tackles, led by Chuck Bellitto’s 13 stops, 11 of which were solo. Jim Daley and Anthony Marascio each recorded 10 stops.
Entering today’s game, the Warriors have a 3-6 overall record and are 2-4 in the Middle Atlantic Conference.
Kleinfelter has rushed for 688 yards on 161 attempts, third most in the conference. He gains an average of 76.4 yards a game and 4.3 yard a carry. Dwyer has completed 148 of his 288 pass attempts, helping Lycoming pick up 178.6 yards through the air a game. He has completed 12 touchdown passes, four of which have been caught by Wagaman, who has caught 49 passes. Wagaman has tallied 628 yards this season, averaging 69.8 a contest.
Defensively, Bellitto has made 77 stops, tying him for second in the MAC. He has made 49 solo tackles and 35 assisted. Marascio is fourth in the conference with 72 tackles, making a split 36 solo and 36 assisted stops. Daley has proved to be a ball hawk, coming up with four interceptions, returning them for 43 total yards. Ray Bierbach has brought down three interceptions for 68 yards.
A Look at FDU-Florham
The Devils come to Williamsport with an overall record of 2-7 and a 1-5 mark in the Middle Atlantic Conference. FDU-Florham has had a hard time winning on the road, going 0-4 so far this season.
Quarterback Bill Winters has pulled double-duty this year, leading the team in both rushing yards and passing yards. On the ground, he has netted 445 yards on 101 attempts, averaging 55.6 yard per game. He has rushed into the end zone on five occasions. In the air, Winters has completed 136 of his 248 passes, going for 1,606 yards and an average of 200.8 a game. Kyle Bukowiec has been the top receiver for the Devils, hauling in 55 catches for 533 yards and four touchdowns.
On defense, Steve Hoverson is tied for second in the league with Bellitto’s 77 tackles. Hoverson has made 46 solo and 31 assisted tackles. He has also made two sacks for a loss of 16 yards. Kevin Horn has made four interceptions, returning them for 27 yards.
