WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- Junior running back Josh Kleinfelter scored the lone touchdown for Lycoming College as the Warriors fell 26-7 against Albright College on Saturday, Oct. 10. The game was the first home game for Lycoming since the season opener.
The loss drops Lycoming to 2-3 on the season and 1-1 in the Middle Atlantic Conference, while Albright improves to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the league.
Kleinfelter (Bellwood, Pa./Bellwood-Antis) scored his two-yard touchdown run with 8:05 remaining in the third quarter to keep Lycoming within striking distance, down 19-7.
Lycoming drove down the field, taking 3:15 off the clock on nine plays and went 52 yards to set up the touchdown. The Warriors started with good field position after forcing a Lions’ punt, beginning their drive on the Lycoming 48-yard line. Senior quarterback Colin Dwyer (Dalton, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) marched the offense down the field.
In the drive, Dwyer utilized three different receivers, tossing Kleinfelter a six-yard pass to get to the Albright 30-yard line. Dwyer also connected on a three-yard pass with Ryan Wagaman (Aspers, Pa./Biglerville) and another six yarder with Brad Shellenberger (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain), getting the Warriors down to the Lions’ two-yard line to set up Kleinfelter for the score.
Albright scored early in the game; just one and a half minutes in after Tanner Kelly tossed a 64-yard touchdown pass.
In the pocket, Dwyer threw for 109 yards, completing 15 of his 31 pass attempts and one interception. The Warriors had a hard time getting the running game going, with Kleinfelter as the leading rusher with 60 yards. The top receiver for the day was Wagaman, who had eight catches for 68 yards.
On special teams, freshman running back Dre Purdy (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Township) picked up 106 yards on four kickoff returns. He broke free for a 29-yard run.
Defensively, Chuck Bellitto led Lycoming in tackles with eight, including seven solo stops. Linebacker Anthony Marascio (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) made seven tackles and was a force in the Albright backfield, dropping the Lion’s for eight yards on three tackles for a loss. He also forced a fumble on Albright quarterback Tanner Kelly, which was recovered by Tom Bennie (Moosic, Pa./Riverside) Bellitto (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) also had a fumble recovery.
Lycoming is back on the road next Saturday, Oct. 17 when they travel to Chester, Pa. to face the Pride of Widener University. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
