WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College swimming program celebrated Senior Day with dominating wins over Arcadia on Saturday, Jan. 24. The Warriors claimed first-place finishes in every event of the meet.
During the first intermission of the meet, Lycoming’s nine senior swimmers and two senior managers were honored in a ceremony on the pool deck.
The team rallied around the seniors to sweep Arcadia in convincing fashion, with the men winning 151-80 and the women winning 150-70.
Eight of the nine senior swimmers claimed individual first-place finishes, including double wins for Brian Fausel (Burdett, N.Y.)(100 fly, 200 fly), Brandon Good (Clearfield, Pa.)(50 free, 100 free) and Jessie Gallagher (Chelntenham, Pa.)(100 fly and 200 fly).
An all senior foursome of Gallagher, Milvana Ban (Harrisburg, Pa.), Kirsten Snyder (Reading, Pa.) and Nichole Zoller (Colonia, N.J.) opened the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay, posting a time of 2:01.23.
The men’s team of Fausel, Joe Andrie (Reedsville, Pa.), Mark Fries (Waynesboro, Pa.) and John Dougherty (Mountain Top, Pa.) also won the opening relay, finishing in a time of 1:48.34.
The 1,000-yard freestyle event went to Meg Emery (Burke, Va.) in 11:39.83 on the women’s side and Joe Kuder (Moorestown, N.J.) in 11:12.38 on the men’s side.
Freshman Claire Zido (Pittsburgh, Pa.) claimed top honors for the women in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:11.81 and Dougherty followed that with a win in 1:56.24 for the men.
Zoller picked up her individual win in the 100-yard backstroke, winning in 1:07.21 for the women. Fries was back in the pool for his second event of the day, winning the men’s race in 58.93 seconds.
Snyder won her individual event in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:14.07. Andrie claimed the top spot for the men in 1:05.20.
Gallagher claimed the first of her two wins in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:35.21. Fausel followed that with a win in the men’s race, finishing in 2:17.53.
Stacy Flick (Easton, Pa.) picked up her first win of the meet in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.94 seconds, followed by Good claiming the men’s race in 23.72 seconds.
Senior Amy Bentz (Elizabethtown, Pa.) earned her individual win in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 59.26 seconds and Good claimed his second win in the men’s race with a time of 53.00 seconds.
Senior Stephanie Conrad (Enola, Pa.) claimed her win in the 200-yard backstroke, posting a time of 2:29.68. Fries picked up his second win of the day in the men’s race, finishing in 2:12.24.
Flick earned her second win in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:33.05 and Andrie claimed his second win as well, posting a time of 2:23.55 for the men.
The Warriors exhibitioned the remaining three events and relay, forfeiting all the points to Arcadia.
In the 500-yard freestyle, Lindsay Stern (Lawrenceville, N.J.) was the first to the wall for the women, touching in 5:58.02. Kuder was the first to finish for the men, finishing in a time of 5:28.64.
Gallagher picked up her second win in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:07.80 and Fausel also earned his second win with a time of 56.86 seconds.
Ban earned her individual win in the 400-yard IM with a time of 5:05.44 and Dave Zablocki (Joppa, Md.) was the first to the wall for the men, finishing in 4:47.22.
The all-senior grouping of Bentz, Gallagher, Snyder and Conrad reached the wall first in the women’s 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 2:01.02 and the men’s team of Mike Tonart (Dallas, Pa.), Zablocki, Derek Lupia (Reading, Pa.) and Myles Biggs (Easton, Pa.) closed out the meet with a time of 1:38.94.
With the wins, both teams have now won their last five meets. The women’s team improves to 8-2 while the men improve to 7-3.
Saturday’s meet was the final dual meet of the season, leaving just the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships left on the schedule. The league meet is scheduled from February 13-15 at the CYC in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
