NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The Lycoming College softball team dropped a pair of contests in their second day at the Fastpitch Dreams Classic, falling 7-0 to Bridgewater State and 8-0 to Pfeiffer University on Tuesday, March 10 at the North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex.
In the morning contest, Bridgewater (3-3) opened the scoring with a two-run single by Aubrey Carberry in the bottom of the first, which wound up being the only runs surrendered by Lycoming (2-2) starter Kendall McAnelly (Williamsport, Pa. / Williamsport Area). McAnelly (0-1) worked the first 4.0 innings, allowing two runs on five hits with no walks or strikeouts. The Bears added five runs on five hits in the bottom of the sixth to pull away.
Three Warriors reached on a walk, a hit batter, and an error against Bridgewater State right-hander Lily Gioiosa (1-0), who spun 7.0 hitless frames.
The Warrior had four hits in the second game - one apiece from seniors Claire Alexander (South Williamsport, Pa. / South Williamsport Area) and Mallory Rodarmel (Montoursville, Pa. / Loyalsock Township), sophomore Ashley Forrest (Red Hill, Pa. / Upper Perkiomen) and first year Isabelle Engel (Jersey Shore, Pa. / Jersey Shore Area). Engel also pitched her second complete game.
Pitcher Mollie Bula led Pfeiffer (10-4), going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. She walked one and struck out two in the shutout.
Lycoming will be off on Wednesday before returning to action on Thursday, March 11, with a 9 a.m. contest against Gwynedd Mercy, followed by a 1 p.m. tilt with Lancaster Bible.
