2025 Lycoming College Volleyball Season Preview

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Even with the loss of seven seniors, the Lycoming College women's volleyball team still can pack a ton of collegiate experience in its lineup, as four players that started at least 10 matches return to the team in 2025 including a group of 11 newcomers that will take the court for 25th-year head coach Tim McMahon when the season begins against New Paltz on Friday, Aug. 29, to kick off the Lycoming Tip-Off Tournament.

McMahon, who has won 339 matches and two conference championships as the Warriors' lead charge, joins Budd Whitehill (37 years, wrestling), Frank Girardi (36 years, football), Deb Holmes (34 years, women's tennis), Roger Crebs (33 years, wrestling), Dutch Burch (32 years, men's basketball) and Christen Ditzler (31 years, women's basketball) as the only coaches in the athletic department's history to lead a team for a quarter-century.

It's been exciting to coach this group during the preseason. We have a lot of young faces and a lot of older players that have a chance to step into a larger role this year. I like how competitive we've been in practice and during our scrimmage and I know the team is excited to get started.

With the loss of Brynne Bisel and Arianna Santos to graduation opening up a couple slots in the rotation, the Warriors will look to a young group to gain experience quickly in the hitter positions.

On the right side of the net, sophomore Elizabeth Mayer can give the team a boost after seeing a lot of time in the middle in 2024. She averaged 0.36 kills and 0.72 blocks per set. Junior Caroline Colucci will also step into an increased role on the right side after she notched 0.77 kills and 0.27 blocks in 74 sets.

On the left side, junior Trinity Powell (1.18 kills) and sophomore Angela Farnham (1.08) kills per set return, while first-years Kamryn Skeith, Emi Wenger, and Charlene Petreshock will work for time immediately.

Senior captain Cameron Upcraft was the team's top offensive and blocking threat during the 2024 season, as she finished second on the team with 2.09 kills per set, hitting a team-best .245, and she added 0.72 blocks per set.

Sophomore Alli Macensky was a key part of the team's net play as well, finishing fourth on the team with 0.53 blocks per set and adding 1.08 kills as a sophomore. Mayer will see significant time in the middle as well, as she finished tied for the team lead with 0.72 blocks.

First-year Ellie Dunkelberger will also see time in the middle during the season.

Junior Haley Balgavy developed into the team's starting setter in 2024, averaging 4.72 assists and leading the team with 38 aces, also posting 1.57 digs per set.
First-years Skeith, Addison Morgan and Rayna Burke also join the team, giving the team plenty of depth.

After the graduation of two players that finished their careers in the top 10 in school history in digs (Ali Koval and Kendall Myers), the Warriors will rebuild around a young defensive corps that includes a senior, a junior, two transfers and three first-year players.

Junior Ima Mercado moves back from setter to defensive specialist, as she posted 3.22 assists, 33 aces and 1.19 digs per set while serving primarily as a setter. Senior Kai Vista averaged 1.67 digs in 15 sets in 2024.

Junior Morgan Cambria comes to Lycoming after two seasons with Landmark Conference foe Elizabethtown and sophomore Jadea Toth joins the team after a season at Lancaster Bible College. First-years Lara DeFreitas, Gabrielle VonStein and Joelanna Stephens will also factor into the team's defense during the season.
