Five alive, four in semis after day one at NCAA Qualifier

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Four Lycoming College wrestlers won two matches to reach the semifinals and five are still in the brackets as day one concluded at the NCAA Division III Region II qualifier on Saturday afternoon, March 1, at the Keiper Recreation Center.
 
Senior 125-pounder Kaden Majcher (Turbotville, Pa./Warrior Run), sophomore 174-pounder Nolen Zeigler (Loysville, Pa./West Perry), junior 184-pounder Eli Crum (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs) and senior heavyweight Robbie West (Washington, Pa./Fort Cherry) all reached the semifinals with the chance to qualify for nationals by winning that match to reach the finals. Sophomore 165-pounder Kaiden Wagner (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) is alive in the consolation bracket after winning three wrestleback matches and will need to win three matches Sunday to place third to earn a berth at the NCAA Championships.
 
The tournament resumes on Sunday, March 1, at 10 a.m. at the Keiper Recreation Center with the semifinals and consolation quarterfinals. All sessions passes will be honored single-day passes will be available for $7 for adults and $4 for senior citizens, students and children. Lycoming Students will be admitted free with their campus ID.
 
Majcher, the top seed at 125 pounds, improved to 30-4 on the season with a 14-1 major decision over Penn College's Justin Adams and a 17-0 technical fall of Oneonta's Cameron Hinchcliff. Majcher faces fifth-seeded Daniel Parkulo of St. John Fisher in the semifinal on Sunday.
 
The third-seed at 174-pounds, Zeigler notched a 56-second pin of Mariano Monacelli of Keystone and a one-minute pin of Tyler Balent of RIT in his pair of bouts. He faces second-seeded Harrison Hinojosa of Stevens in the semifinal.
 
Crum, the second-seed at 184 pounds, notched a 17-2 technical fall of RIT's Kyle Jacobs and added an 8-0 major decision over Cortland's Robert Cunningham. He will face third-seeded Xavier Pommells of Ithaca in the semifinal.
 
West, the fourth-seed at heavyweight, started his run with a 6-0 win over Pitt-Bradford's Cameron Carter-Green before an injury default in the quarterfinals after West was leading Penn College's Nicholai Brotzman, 3-0, helped him reach the semifinal, where he faces top-seeded Josh Harkless of RIT.
 
Wagner, the No. 5 seed at 165 pounds, dropped a match by tech fall in a pigtail bout, but rebounded with a 16-0 tech fall of Centenary's Mark Venson before a medical forfeit moved him into the round of 12, where he posted a 17-5 major decision over Cortland's Jack Pickersgill. He will face Alfred State's Benjamin Rivera in the consolation quarterfinal, with the winner moving on to face the loser of semifinal between sixth-seeded Jack Lamson of RIT and second-seeded Christophe Stathopoulos of Stevens, and the loser moving into the semifinal match.
 
Senior 157-pounder Logan Bartlett (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) and junior 197-pounder James Ellis (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) each won a pair of bouts before they dropped out of the bracket in the round of 12.
