Martinez's win highlights second day in Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa.—Sophomore Sean Martinez (Willow Grove, Pa. / Upper Moreland) took home a victory in the 200-yard freestyle to highlight the second day of action for the Lycoming College swimming team at the Electric City Invitational at Marywood University.

Through two days of the three-day event, the Warrior men have racked up 225 points, good for fourth place, while the women are in fifth in a seven-team field with 211 points

Martinez turned in a blistering time of 1:50.65, winning by a little over three seconds. That mark was also less than a second below his personal best and the fastest turned in by a Warrior swimmer this season.

Junior Drew Degnan (Elmira, N.Y. / Elmira) finished third in the 100-yard butterfly with a mark of 56.69, less than half a second below his personal record. Degnan also finished sixth in a 22-man field in the 50-yard freestyle, turning in a 23.16 mark.

The Warrior men put up a strong showing as well in the 200-yard freestyle relay, with Degnan, first year Jason Ricci (Cherry Hill, N.J. / Cherry Hill), junior Will Eberz (Stroudsburg, Pa. / Stroudsburg), and Martinez finishing at 1:36.70, good for fourth place in a crowded field.

On the women's side, junior Gwyn Fox (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona Area) had a pair of strong showings in crowded fields, finishing eighth in a 27-person field in the 50-yard freestyle in 27.15, then taking sixth out of 16 swimmers in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:10.05, just ahead of senior teammate Megan Lonergan (York, Pa. / York Suburban), who was seventh at a 2:16.58 mark.

The Warriors will close the meet on Sunday, Nov. 23, with the final day of racing in Scranton, Pa. getting underway from the Marywood University Aquatics Center at 10 a.m.
