WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Sophomore Gwyn Fox (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona Area) led the Lycoming College women's swimming team to a 90-57 victory over King's College (Pa.) with two first-place finishes in non-conference action on Friday evening, Jan. 24. The men's team fell to King's, 109-40.
Fox finished first in the 100-yard freestyle with a 1:01.08 finish and the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:12.14, as she helped pace the Warriors, which won eight of the 11 women's events.
With a 1:13.82 finish, sophomore Megan Klansek (Hanover, Pa. / Southwestern) placed first in the 100-yard backstroke, which was two seconds before the second-place finisher. Junior Megan Lonergan (York, Pa. / York Suburban) also notched a win in the 500-yard freestyle with a 6:07.12 time, which was twenty seconds ahead of the next swimmer.
First-year Madison Robbins (Wellsboro, Pa. / Wellsboro Area) finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:19.06 time, and sophomore Londyn Snyder (Halifax, Pa. / Halifax Area) followed up in second with a 1:19.36 finish. Snyder also recorded a 1:22.55 finish in the 100-yard butterfly to help the Warrior women secure a victory.
For the men's team, sophomore Drew Degnan (Elmira, N.Y. / Elmira) also placed first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 59.48. Notching a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, first-year Sean Martinez (Willow Grove, Pa. / Upper Moreland) recorded a time of 2:00.51.
Among the relay teams, the Warrior women of Klansek, Robbins, Snyder and Fox won the 200-yard medley relay with a 2:15.14 time. Sophomore Anasten Holbrook (Parker, Colo. / Colorado Early Colleges-Douglas County), Klansek, Lonergan and Robbins also placed first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 2:02.23. The men's team of Degnan, Martinez, senior Brian Hulsey (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis Area Christian) and sophomore Tyler Bronson (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) also placed first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with 1:47.86 finish.
The win brought the women's team to 2-11 overall and 0-5 in the Landmark Conference. The men's team is 1-11 overall and 0-5 in the Landmark Conference.
The Warriors are back in the Lamade Gym Natatorium on Saturday, Feb. 1, when they host Moravian University in a 1 p.m. Landmark Conference meet.
