Crebs qualifies for nationals, Warriors sixth at NCAA Southeast Regionals

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – A second-period takedown and one final one in the third helped Lycoming College senior 197-pounder Gable Crebs (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) break open his third-place match en route to a 13-6 win to earn his second trip to the NCAA Division III Championship, as he led a group of six Lycoming wrestlers on the second day of the NCAA Southeast Regional on Saturday, March 2, at the Keiper Recreation Center.

After going 3-1 on the first day of the tournament, Crebs, a 2022 All-American, won by medical forfeit to reach the consolation semifinals, where he beat No. 3 seed John Santowski of Washington & Lee, 10-5, setting up the third-place match with No. 8 seed Daniel Eckley of Delaware Valley. After giving up the first takedown, Crebs rebounded an escape and a takedown to take a 4-3 lead into the second period. He fell behind after another Eckley takedown, 6-5, but got an escape and drove through on a takedown to take a 9-6 lead. After Eckley chose neutral to start the third, Crebs capped the win with one more takedown.

Crebs, the No. 4 seed, enters the NCAA Division III Championship with a 23-5 record, as he will head to LaCrosse, Wis., for the two-day tournament starting on Friday, March 15, at 11 a.m.

Junior 125-pounder Kaden Majcher (Turbotville, Pa./Warrior Run) and sophomore 149-pounder Kobin Karper (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) each took fourth, sophomore 174-pounder Eli Crum (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs) took fifth and junior 133-pounder Thomas Conselyea (Landing, N.J./Roxbury) and junior 165-pounder Logan Bartlett (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) each took seventh, helping Lycoming take sixth at the tournament, the team's best finish since taking second in 2019.

Majcher, the No. 3 seed, opened Saturday with a pin of No. 7 seed Malik Asfour of Delaware Valley in 2:02 and added a 15-5 major decision of No. 4 seed Adrian Samano in the consolation semifinals, but fell, 7-2, to No. 6 seed Akhil Vega in the third-place bout.

Karper opened Saturday with a 8-3 win over Roanoke's Jarrod Pominville before beating Waynesburg's Cole Homet in the consolation semifinals, but No. 6 seed Jesse Alvarado of Averett posted a pin in 1:50 in the third-place bout.

Crum dropped a match to the No. 2 seed in the semifinals and the No. 5 seed in the consolation semifinal before he earned a win via forfeit to take fifth. Crum finished the season 28-8 with a school-record 14 technical falls this year.

Conselyea opened Saturday by dropping a major decision, but rebounded in the seventh-place match with a 9-8 win over Averett's A.J. Orlando.

Bartlett fell to Messiah's Clay Gainer, 4-1, in the Saturday opener before he finished his junior season with a 4-2 win over Gettysburg's Justin Richey to finish seventh and finish the season, 21-18.
