Crebs finishes career at NCAA Championships

LaCROSSE, Wis. - Lycoming College senior Gable Crebs (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) finished his career amongst the best 16 197-pound wrestlers in Division III, as he bowed out of the NCAA Division III Championship on Friday evening, March 15, after dropping a match to fifth-seeded Parker Venz of Augsburg.

Crebs finished 1-2 during his second appearance at the NCAA Championships after earning NCAA All-American honors with an eighth-place finish in 2022. The Montoursville, Pa., native finished his career with a 107-30 record, the eighth-most wins in program history. He also posted 46 pins and 17 technical falls, both the third-most in the program's record book.

Venz posted a 19-4 technical fall. Crebs had a first-period takedown to close within a point of Venz at 5-4, but Venz used a reversal and a four-point near fall to take an 11-4 lead into the second period. Crebs chose bottom and Venz closed the match with two more near fall counts at the 4:26 mark.

Crebs posted a 17-2 technical fall win over Centenary's Keevon Berry to advance in the consolation bracket to the evening session on Friday afternoon. Crebs opened up a nine-point lead against Berry before a reversal helped Berry close the gap to seven points. Crebs ended the first period with an escape to make it 10-2, chose bottom to start the second, got a quick escape, a takedown and earned a 3-point near fall to cap his 107th career win 3:42 into the match.

He dropped a 17-2 technical fall result to No. 4 seed Ben Kawczynski of Wis.-LaCrosse in his opening round match to move into the consolation bracket.

The Warriors, who finished 25th in The Open Mat's Dual Meet rankings, finished 11-2 under 31st-year head coach Roger Crebs, who became the seventh coach in Division III history to reach 450 career dual meet wins during the seasons. The Warriors had six placewinners at the NCAA Southeast Regional, as the team finished sixth in the 22-team field.
