WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. –Junior Ben Franco (Macungie, Pa./ Emmaus) saved two shots in overtime, adding to a total of 23 in the game, to help lead the Lycoming College men's lacrosse to a 10-9 win over Gwynedd Mercy and earn him Lycoming College's first Landmark Conference Defensive Athlete of the Week honors, the conference announced on Monday, Feb. 26.
Franco kept the game alive in overtime facing two shots and saving both, giving the Warrior offense to find the back of the net in double overtime for the win over the Griffins. Franco faced 50 shots making 23 saves and allowed eight goals.
Franco did a bulk of his work in the second and third quarters, making 18 saves off 31 Gwynedd Mercy shots in that 30-minute span.
The award is the third in the junior's career, as he was the MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week twice in 2022 as a first-year player.
The Warriors will be back in action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28, as they host Ithaca at UPMC Field.
