Wooley, Donnelly pace Lycoming past Juniata, 9-8

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – In a game with three ties, it was the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team that broke the last one with a goal from first-year Garis Tocco (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) with 8:57 left, as Lycoming posted a 9-8 win over Juniata College in Landmark Conference action at Gibbel Stadium on Wednesday night, April 15.

Junior Brogan Wooley (Hampton, N.J./Morris Catholic) finished with three goals and two assists and both first-year Ryan MacElhinney (Holmes, N.Y./Carmel) and first-year Kyle Kunes (Joppa, Md./Joppatowne) each had two goals to lead the Warriors (3-10 overall, 1-5 Landmark). Tocco added a goal and an assist, first-year Connor Thompson (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) notched five groundballs and four caused turnovers and senior Cole Slezak (Butler, Pa./Kiski Prep) added four groundballs and four caused turnovers.

Junior Evan Donnelly (Hanover, Md./Archbishop Spalding) recorded 25 saves in the win, stopping eight shots in the fourth quarter alone.

Juniata scored two goals in the opening minute before Kunes, Wooley, MacElhinney and sophomore James Hall-Melnychuck (Magnolia, N.J./Sterling) scored to cap the first quarter. MacElhinney and Wooley expanded the lead to 6-2 and another goal from Wooley made it 7-4 with 12:36 left in the third before the Eagles rallied to tie the game with 12:24 left in the fourth.

Goals from Tocco and another from Kunes with 2:46 left gave Lycoming a 9-7 lead and a late goal from Juniata wasn't soon enough to allow Juniata the time to tie the game.

Sterling Bechler led the Eagles with three goals and four assists and Noah Harrison posted 12 groundballs. Chris Queen caused three turnovers and Griffin Umstead posted 17 saves.

The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, April 18, when they head to the Catholic University of America for a 12 p.m., Landmark Conference match.
