SCRANTON, Pa. - Sophomore Drew Degnan (Elmira, N.Y. / Elmira) and first-year Sean Martinez (Willow Grove, Pa. / Upper Moreland) each notched two first-place finishes individually and added two more first-place finishes together in relays to help lead the Lycoming College men's swimming team to a 64-56 win against SUNY Delhi in a double dual meet on Saturday morning, Dec. 7, at the Marywood University Aquatics Center. The women's team also beat SUNY Delhi, 128-11.
The host Pacers beat Lycoming 92-72 on the men's side and 182-51 on the women's side, as Lycoming's men improved to 1-7 overall and the women to 1-8.
Degnan notched first-place finishes in the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly, finishing the freestyle with a time of 52.77 and the butterfly with a time of 59.51. Martinez also placed first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.89 and the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:32.12.
Senior Brian Hulsey (Annapolis, Md. / Annapolis Area Christian) finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:17.38 time.
The team of Martinez, sophomore Will Eberz (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg), Degnan and Hulsey placed first in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:58.15, and the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Degnan, Martinez, Hulsey and Eberz won with a 1:41.32 finish to clinch the win over the Broncos, who touched in 1:42.48.
For the women, junior Megan Lonergan (York, Pa. / York Suburban) finished second in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:31.81, and sophomore Londyn Snyder (Halifax, Pa. / Halifax Area) finished second in the 200-yard butterfly with a 2:33.48. Snyder also finished second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:17.32).
Sophomore Gwyn Fox (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona Area) finished second in the 200-yard freestyle with a 2:14.95 and she followed that with a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (6:07.89). First-year Madison Robbins (Wellsboro, Pa. / Wellsboro Area) (1:21.03) posted a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke within a second of the first-place finisher from Marywood. She also placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a 2:56.06.
The Warriors gear up for final exams this week before they travel to Altoona, Pa., to compete against Penn St.-Altoona on Friday, Dec. 13, at 6 p.m.
