WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – For the first time in program history, the Lycoming College men's basketball team earned the National Association of Basketball Coaches Team Academic Excellence Award and a record three players earned mention on the NABC Honors Court – seniors
Luke Finkbeiner (Warrenton, Va./Wakefield School) and
Danilo Petrovic (Red Hill, Pa./IV Belgrade (Serbia)) and junior
Mavin James (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) - the organization announced on Tuesday, July 20.
The NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards recognize men's basketball programs that completed the 2022-23 academic year with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The NABC Honors Court, meanwhile, includes junior, senior and graduate student men's basketball players who finished the 2022-23 year with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.
Over 1,800 players earned spots on the NABC Honors Court and over 300 programs received NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards for 2022-23. Stevens Institute of Technology was the lone other MAC Freedom school to earn the team award.
Finkbeiner, a biology: anatomy and physiology major, appeared in 45 games in his career, hitting 30 3-pointers and finishing his career with 98 points.
Petrovic, a business administration major, appeared in 12 games, averaging 1.0 point and 1.2 rebounds per game during his four-year career.
James, a mathematics major, has been a key reserve for the Warriors, appearing in 26 games as a junior and averaging 1.9 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. He has appeared in 59 career games, averaging 3.8 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.
The Warriors finished 16-10 overall and 11-5, good for second in the MAC Freedom, under first-year head coach
