DeWolfe earns Wolf Award as most improved junior athlete

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Junior Rachel DeWolfe (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Crest) entered the 2023 season with 21 career hits in two years as a starting third baseman, playing in 53 career games, but the New Cumberland, Pa., native finished the year hitting .326, 151 points higher than her career batting average entering the year, helping her earn the Sol "Woody" Wolf Award as the college's most improved junior athlete.

There were some signs, early this year, that it would be different. In February, there was an Instagram post of a smiling Rachel, holding a torn and decimated softball.

In March, she started the season by hitting .565 with four doubles, a triple and four RBI during the team's trip to Myrtle Beach. When the team got back from Myrtle Beach, she hit her first career homer to walk off with a 2-1 win over FDU-Florham. She hit her second to end an 8-0 win over Albright.

Even an injury toward the end of the season didn't slow down Rachel. It was her standing at the plate with the team down, 3-2, to King's last week, when she singled and two runs scored to send the Warriors to the conference final.

She had 13 runs, five doubles, a triple, two homers and 16 RBI, all career-bests for the designated player, helping her earn Second Team All-MAC Freedom accolades.
