YORK, Pa. – With a fifth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle, senior Katherine Brown (Glenside, Pa./Abington) made the podium for the second year in a row in the event to highlight the Lycoming College swimming teams opening day at the MAC Championships, at the Graham Aquatic Center on Thursday evening, Feb. 9.
 
Brown, who set the school record (24.56) in the event at the 2022 MAC Championships with a fourth-place finish, swam an even 25.00 in the preliminaries before swimming a season-best 24.84 in the finals to take fifth, 0.90 seconds behind the event winner, Camryn Hubric of Misericordia.
 
Qualifying at 11^th in the preliminaries, junior Cathryn Brought (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) clocked a season-best and personal-best time of 25.27 before she finished 13^th in the finals with a time of 25.32. Her preliminary time is also the sixth-best in program history.
 
Sophomore Noah Vivian (Barto, Pa./Boyertown Area) finished 18^th with a time of 22.23 in the 'C' finals, after he swam a personal-best 22.11 in the preliminaries.
 
First-year Augustus Wood (Herndon, Va./Herndon) dropped six seconds for a season-best 5:45.94 in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing as an alternate for the 'C' final in the race during the morning session.
 
The women's 200-yard medley relay team of Wood, Brown, Brought, and junior Elisa DiNicola (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Township) combined for a seventh-place finish, swimming a season-best 1:53.93.
 
On the men's side, the 200-yard medley relay 'A' team of Vivian, senior Will Marcinkowski (Philadelphia, Pa./LaSalle College), junior C.J. Zortman (York, Pa./York Suburban), and senior junior Eliot Keith (New Ringgold, Pa./Blue Mountain) swam a 1:42.92 to take 11^th.
 
The Warriors return to the pool on Friday, Feb. 10, for the second day of the MAC Championships with preliminaries starting at 9:30  a.m. and finals at 5:30 p.m.
