2023-24 Lycoming College Wrestling Season Preview

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - With four wrestlers returning that placed at the NCAA Southeast Regional last year, the Lycoming College wrestling team opens the 2023-24 season on Sunday, Nov. 5, with one of its most experienced lineups in years. On the flip side, none of the four wrestlers reached the NCAA Division III Championship, putting 31st-year head coach Roger Crebs in a spot to start a season that he has encountered only four times in his Hall of Fame career.

So the Warriors will open the season both experienced and with plenty prove when the Lycoming Invitational starts on Sunday morning. Senior 157-pounder Wiley Kahler and 197-pounder Gable Crebs both have plenty to prove in their final year as Warriors, as Kahler finished fourth at the Southeast Regional at 141 pounds last year, one match from earning a trip to the NCAA Championships and Crebs opens the season ranked ninth in the nation, as he was an All-American in 2022 and earned the Most Falls Award at the NCAA Southeast Regional in 2023, but didn't advance to his second championship.

Behind them, the Warriors return starters at eight weight classes, and even in the open weight classes, the team seems to have wrestlers more than ready to step into a starting role like junior 141-pounder Cooper Gilham, 19-7 in his first year with the team last year, and heavyweight Robbie West, who is 46-17 in his career.

Junior Kaden Majcher returns after he posted a 27-9 record as a sophomore and he will enter his third year in the program ranked fifth in the Southeast Region. With more than 50 wins in his career, he gives the team a solid option to kick off dual meets.
Junior Brayden Newman will be able to spell Majcher in the lineup when needed, as he has 14 wins in his first two years with the team.

Sophomore Jaciah Whitcomb posted six wins during his rookie year, as he represented the team at the NCAA Southeast Regional.

Junior Thomas Conselyea returns after starting the season with an 8-1 record last year before injuries took him from the lineup.

Sophomore Anthony Coukart and first-year Avery Rosan will also have opportunities to help the team in the weight class.

With senior Wiley Kahler moving up a pair of weight classes, the Warriors will look for junior Cooper Gilham to lead a group of five wrestlers looking for time in the weight class.

Gilham, in a junior varsity role, went 19-7 in his first year in the program. Juniors Shane Perry and Clayton Royer will also see time at the weight, along with first-years Kyle Haverstick and Wyatt Kent.

Sophomore Kobin Karper earned the starting spot at 149 pounds and he responded with a 23-8 record, finishing sixth at the NCAA Southeast Regional. He begins the year ranked fifth in the region.
First-years Jayden Drummond and Cael Owen will also see time at the weight class.

With the graduation of Hunter O'Connor, senior Wiley Kahler and junior Logan Bartlett will move up to 157 pounds and battle for the starting gig.

Kahler finished 27-11 at 141 pounds in 2022-23, finishing fourth at the NCAA Southeast Regional. Bartlett went 18-6 in his second year in the program at 149 pounds, notching eight pins.

Senior Hunter Charles and first-year Ethan Kolb also will see time at the weight class.

Junior Chase Chapman, who went 21-10 in his sophomore year, returns and will highlight the 165-pound weight class. First-year Wyatt Frawley, an all-county selection at Butler High School, will also work for time at the position.

Senior Gable Crebs is a three-time NCAA Southeast Regional placewinner and a 2022 All-American, as he finished eighth in the nation in his only appearance at the NCAA Championships. He starts the year listed as a contender by d3wrestle.com and ranked second at 197 pounds in the Southeast Region. He was 33-3 as a junior with 18 pins and he enters his senior year with a 83-22 career record with 37 pins.
