WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College men's and women's lacrosse teams are both set to make appearances in the MAC Freedom Championship this week, the first time since 2010 that both teams will appear in the postseason in the same year.
The women's lacrosse team has earned the No. 4 seed and will host No. 5 DeSales University on Monday, May 2 at 7 p.m. at UPMC Field. The men's lacrosse team has earned the No. 5 seed and will head to Misericordia University on Tuesday, May 3 for a 7 p.m. game.
Admission to each round of both championships have the following ticket prices:
Adults - $5
Senior Citizens - $4
Students (Valid ID) & Children - $2
Pre School (under 6) with adult – FREE
Lycoming students will be admitted free with ID to the women's lacrosse game Monday night.
Both the Mulberry Street and Packer Street gates will open at 6 p.m. for the women's lacrosse game on Monday. Only cash will be accepted at the gate. Please be aware of our seating and parking limitations due to construction on the new stadium complex as well. We do have limited seating, but feel free to bring your own chair.
2022 MAC Freedom Championship t-shirts will only be available via online order through May 15. Both of the Warrior teams are the most improved in the MAC Freedom this year, with the women's lacrosse team jumping from 0-3 in a COVID-shortened 2021 to 9-8 in 2022 under third-year head coach
Sarah Quigley and the men's lacrosse team going from 1-10 in 2021 to 8-9 under second-year head coach
Brendan Gorman, who won his 100
th career game against Drew on March 23.
Both teams have also been paced by two of the top goalkeepers in the MAC Freedom. For the women, Sophomore
Zoe Stauffer (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) has is third in school history with 215 saves this season, just 12 from the school record of 227 set by Laurie Rooney in 2003. First-year
Ben Franco (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) has posted 225 saves, 23 from the school record of 248 set by Michael Tenant in 2019.
The appearance as the No. 4 seed for the women's program highlights a significant shift after compiling a 12-27 in the past four seasons, as the team has rebuilt under Quigley, who will compete in the World Lacrosse Championship with Spain this summer.
The team features a balanced offense that includes six players with at least 25 points, led by three first-years –
Katie Maguire (Garnerville, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) (54 goals, three assists),
Erin Henn (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sayville) (17 goals, 23 assists) and
Kailey Stocker (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) (35 goals, two assists).
DeSales enters the tournament with an 8-9 record and a 4-4 mark in conference play, as the Warriors earned an edge over the Bulldogs in conference seeding thanks to a 14-9 win on April 20.
The winner of Monday's game will visit top-seeded FDU-Florham on Wednesday, May 4, at 4 p.m.
The appearance as the No. 5 seed for the men's program is the team's fourth straight appearance in the postseason, a run interrupted by the cancellation of the 2020 season due to COVID-19 and the continued thanks to all teams in the MAC Freedom earning a spot in the conference tournament in 2021.
The Warrior offense is paced by nine players with at least 10 points. Seniors
Owen Zimmerman (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico) and
Dominick Massaro (Centereach, N.Y./Sachem North) have each notched more than 40 points, with Zimmerman posting 47 goals and 18 assists for 65 points, the most for a Warrior since 2008 and Massaro adding 36 goals and nine assists.
Misericordia enters the tournament 11-5 overall and 5-3 in the MAC Freedom. The Cougars posted a 14-13 win over the Warriors in the first meeting on March 30.
The winner of Tuesday's game will visit top-seeded Stevens on Thursday, May 5, at 7 p.m.
