Katherine Brown (Glenside, Pa./Abington) finished in 17
th place in preliminary round of the NCAA Championships and will be the first alternate to the consolation finals on Friday night, March 18, at the IU Natatorium.

Brown notched a time of 1:04.38 during her morning swim, just five-one-hundredths of a second off the time of 1:04.33 from Bates' Abigail Gibbons, which would have guaranteed Brown a spot in the consolation finals and an Honorable Mention All-American accolade from the CSCAA.

Brown, who entered the event seeded 19
th at 1:03.88, turned in a split of 30.58 before posting a 33.80 on the return trip.

Brown caps her time at the NCAA Championships on Saturday when she competes in the 100-yard freestyle.

The Glenside, Pa., native is the first Warrior woman to compete at the NCAA Championships since Denise Zimmerman in 1984.

The MAC's David B. Eavenson Swimmer of the Year, Brown set school records in each of the individual events she swam in at the MAC Championships, winning two and setting the MAC record in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:03.88.
