WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – After becoming the first coach in the history of the Lycoming College men's basketball team to win back-to-back conference titles in different leagues,Â
Mike McGarvey has become the first coach in the athletic department's history to repeat as the Robert Darrow Curry Coach of the Year.
Â
With only one senior that graduated from the team in 2019-20, when the Warriors went 20-8 overall and earned the school's last MAC Commonwealth title before departing for the MAC Freedom, expectations were high this season.
Â
The 2020-21 season started with two 25-point plus wins against FDU-Florham before a two-week pause occurred due to a cluster of COVID cases on campus. With just one week of practice under their belts due to the pause, the Warriors went out and earned a hard-fought four-point win against Arcadia.
Â
The following week, with a spot in the conference title game on the line, the Warriors posted a 13-point win over undefeated DeSales. The following Friday, they beat DeSales again, this time, 69-53, to finish the season 5-2 overall and becoming the first men's basketball team in program history to win conference titles in back-to-back years.
Â
Both senior
Darius Dangerfield (Abington, Md./Harford Tech) and sophomore
Dyson Harward (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) were named First Team All-MAC Freedom selections and sophomore
DeAundre Manuel (Brooklyn, N.Y./KIPP NYC College Prep) was an honorable mention pick, the first time in 17 years the team had three all-conference selections.
Â
After the men's basketball season, McGarvey stepped in as the interim golf coach, where he oversaw saw great improvement from all four golfers during the season.
