Three Warriors earn Hampshire Honor Society accolades

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Three significant contributors to the Lycoming College football team have earned a spot on the 2021 Hampshire Honor Society, the National Football Foundation in Dallas, Texas, announced on Wednesday, April 14.

The three members are seniors defensive back Allen Martin (Secane, Pa./Ridley), offensive lineman Kyle Pierce (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) and tight end Trent Riggs (Centerville, Md./Queen Anne's County).

In order to be eligible for membership into the honor society, a player must be a starter or significant reserve on the team as a senior, maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade point average throughout his entire course of undergraduate study and meet all NCAA-mandated progress toward degree requirements and graduation.

Martin developed into a starting defensive back for the Warriors in 2019, as he made 25 tackles and broke up two passes in his first varsity action. A three-time member of the MAC Academic Honor Roll and a Chi Alpha Sigma inductee, Pierce is a mathematics and quantitative economics major.

Pierce started 21 games in a row and appeared in 31 in his career while splitting time as an offensive and defensive lineman. The engineering physics major moved to his spot as a permanent offensive lineman in the last seven weeks of 2020, earning Honorable Mention All-MAC honors as the team's center. As a sophomore, he played both ways in the last 10 games of the year and finished with 32 tackles before starting his junior year with 11 tackles, a sack and forced fumble in just three games. As a freshman, he had 22 tackles, 3.5 for loss and a sack as he played exclusively on the defensive side of the ball. He has been honored as a member of the MAC Academic Honor Roll three times and is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Athletics honor society.

After spending two years on the defensive line, Riggs moved into a role as one of the team's top tight ends as a junior. Despite struggling with injuries, he appeared in three games and caught three passes for 23 yards. A two-time member of the MAC Academic Honor Roll as an accounting major, Riggs has also moved into the starting lineup on the men's golf team this semester.

The Warriors' regular season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The team has begun regular practices in the spring 2021 semester to prepare for the 2021 season.
