UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – Junior 125-pounder Shane Casey (Catawissa, Pa./Southern Columbia) and seniors 174-pounder Hadyn Swartwood (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) and 197-pounder Brody Keefe (Effort, Pa./Pleasant Valley) each won four matches to lead the Lycoming College wrestling team, which went 3-1 at the John Carroll University Duals on Sunday, Nov. 24, at the DeCarlo Varsity Center.
 
The Warriors (5-1 overall) defeated Pitt-Bradford, 48-10, Urbana, 31-18, and Division II Davis & Elkins, 24-13, and fell to the host John Carroll, 23-18, in a match that came down to heavyweight.
 
Pins from Swartwood and Keefe made the difference late in the match against Urbana (2-4 overall). Freshman 133-pounder Sam Hanley (Danielsville, Pa./Northampton Area) posted a fall to give Lycoming a 12-0 lead and a win by senior 149-pounder Joe Santomarco (Manalapan, N.J./Manlapan) by major decision at 149 made it 16-5, before Urbana closed within three points with a pair of wins. Swartwood pinned Brendon Hartsell in 2:34 at 174 to make it 22-12, but the Blue Knights closed with four again with a pin at 184. Keefe, however, clinched the win with a pin of Seth Duvall in 1:22 to make it 28-18, before sophomore Nick Winfield (Orbsonia, Pa./Southern Huntingdon County) posted a 4-0 win at heavyweight to close out the win.
 
The bottom of the lineup also carried the Warriors to the win over Division II Davis & Elkins (1-2 overall), scoring the last 15 points to come-from-behind for a 24-13 win. Casey started the match with a decision before Davis & Elkins posted seven points in the next two bouts. Santomarco and junior Josiah McClarren (West Decatur, Pa./Clearfield) added decisions to take a 9-7 lead hallway through the meet. A pin a 165 helped the Senators take a 13-9 lead, but a forfeit helped Lycoming take the lead back. Swartwood used a third-period takedown to take control of his 184-pound match, beating Kyle Wojtaszek, 8-4, and Keefe controlled a 6-1 win over Joseph Wilson at 197 to clinch the win before Winfield added a win by decision at heavyweight.
 
In the opener against Pitt-Bradford (0-6 overall), the Warriors got the benefit of five forfeit wins to nearly secure the win. Sophomore 165-pounder Ryan Bohringer (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial), senior 174-pounder Hadyn Swartwood (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) and freshman 184-pounder Conner Boal (Eldora, N.J./Holy Spirit) all had pins to guarantee the win in a 48-10 victory.
 
The Warriors fought back and forth with John Carroll (7-2 overall), with the match coming down to heavyweight before the Blue Streaks were able to take a 22-18 win.
 
Casey and Hanley started the meet off with wins by decision before the Blue Streaks answered with four straight wins to take a 16-6 lead. Swartwood responded with a pin to make it 16-12 at 174 and a huge pin by Keefe at 197 made it 19-18 heading into the heavyweight match, which John Carroll's John Stasek won by decision in a high-scoring affair with Winfield, 13-6.
 
The Warriors get back on the mat on Saturday, Dec. 7, when they head to the Ohio Northern University Invitational at 9 a.m.
