WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -Â Four weeks into the regular season, the Lycoming College football team will have a chance to knock the last undefeated team in the MAC from the ranks when it heads to FDU-Florham on Saturday, Sept. 22, for a 12 p.m. game at Shields Field.
The Warriors (2-1 overall, 1-0 MAC) are coming off back-to-back wins, posting a 23-10 win over Lebanon Valley in the conference opener on Sept. 15. Junior
Jacob Fimbres led the Warrior attack, rushing for 94 yards and a touchdown.
FDU-Florham has opened its season with three straight wins for the first time since 2010 after downing Alvernia, 49-14, in its conference opener. Senior Mike Panzarino is seventh in Division III with an average of 152.7 receiving yards per game.
Warrior Notes
• The Warriors are looking to open MAC play 2-0 for the first time since 2014.
• The Warriors allowed just 10 first downs to Lebanon Valley, the fewest to an opponent since Misericordia had five in 2012.
• The Warriors lead the MAC in defensive first downs (39), pass efficience defense (90.58), sacks (3.33) and total defense (252.3).
• Senior
Nick Costello needs one more receiving touchdown to move into a tie for fifth in school history with Vic Olear (1986-89) with 19.
• Junior
Jamie Fisher leads Division III with an average of 2.3 field goals per game made.
• Fisher needs four more points scored to become the eighth kicker in program history to post 100 in a career.
• Senior
D.J. Boyd is one tackle shy of reaching 100 in his career. Boyd is also tied for the MAC lead with five passes defended.
Dominating Defense
In the past two games, the Lycoming defense has allowed just 21 first downs, with Widener notching 11 in a 33-19 loss and Lebanon Valley getting just 10 in a 23-10 loss. The Warriors have allowed 399 yards of total offense to the two opponents, which has propelled the team into a familiar position - the top of the MAC in total defense (252.3). The Warriors also lead the MAC in pass efficiency defense (90.58), sacks (3.33) and they are second in both passing yards allowed (127.7) and rushing yards allowed (124.7). The Warriors have led the MAC in total defense 18 times in the tenure of 45th-year co-defensive coordinator
Steve Wiser.
It's Been A While
The Warriors held Lebanon Valley to 10 first downs and 60 yards passing in their 23-10 win. It was the first time since facing Misericordia on Nov. 10, 2012 that the team gave up 10 or fewer first downs and the first time since holding Stevenson to 85 yards passing on Oct. 4, 2014 that they gave up less than 100 yards passing.
Defense, Defense, Defense
After opening the season by allowing 38 points to Susquehanna, the Lycoming defense dominated Widener in Sept. 8's 33-19 win. The win snapped a four-game losing streak to the Pride, the longest in the history of the rivalry. It was also the first time that the Warrior defense allowed fewer than 200 yards of total offense since the team allowed 184 to Stevenson in a 31-10 win on Oct. 4, 2014.Â
Playing Both Ways
While several players in head coach
Mike Clark's 11-year tenure have changed positions, moving from the defensive to the offensive side of the ball, few have done what sophomore
Kyle Pierce has done. The Berwick, Pa., native, has transitioned to the offensive side of the ball as a starting offensive guard while also continuing to serve as a defensive tackle for several snaps a game. Pierce moved over to offense during Week 2 at Widener and has stayed in the position. He has made three tackles on the defensive side of the ball this year.
National Leader
With seven field goals in the last two games, junior
Jamie Fisher has taken over the Division III lead in field goals per game. Fisher, who hit a school-record four field goals against Widener, followed that by knocking down three more against Lebanon Valley, although his run of sven straight field goals was snapped when he missed a 43-yard attempt wide with 4:01 left in the fourth quarter. Fisher, who now has 21 made field goals in his career which is good for fifth in the school's record book, has hit two of the top-10 longest field goals in program history this year and he is the only Warrior to hit five 40-yard field goals in a career.

Reaching 100
Two Warriors have reached 100 career tackles this year, with both seniors
Dominic Loffredo and
Joe Pinzka raching the milestone. Loffredo reached the milestone with his first of two stops against Susquehanna in the season opener. Pinzka, a safety, had 11 tackles as a freshman, 33 as a sophomore and 45 as a junior before posting 15 stops in the first three games to reach the milestone.Â
Senior cornerback
D.J. Boyd is also just one stop shy of the mark, as he posted 25 tackles as a freshman, 13 in an injury-filled sophomore year and 52 as a senior before notching nine this year.
Costello's Nicks in the Record Book
Seventh in school history with 1,720 receiving yards and 109 receptions, senior
Nick Costello is also quickly moving up the school's career touchdown receptions list, entering Saturday's game tied for sixth in school history with 18. He is one touchdown shy of the top five in program history and a tie with Vic Olear (1986-89) and three from a tie with former teammate Ryan Umpleby (2012-15) for fourth in program history.Â
