LEWISBURG, Pa. – With a very balanced effort in a small five-team invitational, the Lycoming College cross country teams opened the 2017 season on Friday evening, Sept. 1 at the Bison Open on the campus of Bucknell University.

The Warriors finished fifth on both the men's and women's sides in a meet that featured two Division I squads and perennial Landmark Conference powerhouses Susquehanna and Juniata.

Sophomore
Kaylee Long (Milton, Pa./Milton Area) led the women's team by finishing 39
th in a field of 67 runners with a time of 16:36 in the 4K race. Senior
Rachel Fritz (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) followed with a  time of 17:19 to take 45
th and sophomore
Amanda Goulden (Wharton, N.J./Morris Hills) took third on the team in 19:27. Seniors
Lindsay Smith (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) (20:14) and
Rachel Ham (San Antonio, Texas/Home-schooled) (20:34) rounded out the team's scoring five runners.

On the men's side, the team's top five runners were separated by just 2:27 on the 6K course. Freshman
Daniel Moses (Cape May, N.J./Wildwood Catholic) led the team with a time of 22:18 to take 42
nd in the field of 57 runners. Freshman
Maverick Stenger (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) added a time of 23:33 to take second on the team and sophomore
Gustavo Vergara (Santa Ana, Calif./Valley) finished in 23:34. Senior
Sean Hastings (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) (24:17) and senior
Joseph Ingrum (Lodi, Calif./Lodi) (24:44) rounded out the team's scoring five runners.

The Warriors get back in action on Saturday, Sept. 9, when they head to the Dutchmen XC Invitational at Union Canal Tunnel Park in Lebanon, Pa. The women's race is set for 10:15 a.m. and the men's is set to start at 11 a.m.
