Warriors overpower Pioneers, 40-7

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – With wins in the first six bouts and six bonus-point wins, the Lycoming College wrestling team won its third straight dual meet with a dominating 40-7 win over Alfred State College on Wednesday night, Feb. 8, at Lamade Gym.

Freshman Garrett Lockwood (Groton, N.Y./Groton) got the Warriors (17-3 overall) started with a 9-0 major decision against Patrick Lehman, posting takedowns in all three periods to ensure the bonus-point win.
In a highly entertaining match at 133, sophomore Will Newmiller (Drexel Hill, Pa./Haverford) battled back and forth with Casey Connor, prevailing 13-11. Newmiller posted the first takedown in the first period and traded reversals with Connor, taking a 9-6 lead into the second period, where Connor scored a takedown to draw within a point. However, as the clock ticked down to one second in the period, Newmiller earned a reversal and he added a third-period takedown to ensure the win.

Sophomore Joe Santomarco (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) posted a pin with one second remaining in the first period, securing a headlock and pressing down for the win to give Lycoming a 13-0 lead at 141 pounds. At 149 pounds, senior Seth Lansberry (Klingerstown, Pa./Line Mountain) scored his 10th technical fall of the season with a 20-4 win over Gordon Trahen, picking up two four-point near falls and six takedowns in the first period win.

After a forfeit win, senior Nolan Barger (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield Area) used two four-point near falls to earn a 14-1 major decision win over Tristan Almeter at 165, giving Lycoming an insurmountable 28-0 lead.

After two wins for Alfred State (7-8 overall), the Warriors clinched the meet with a pair of pins, as junior Bradley Miccio (Bloomsburg, Pa./Benton Area) posted an early takedown before working to get a 54-second fall over Brandon Barbagelta at 197 pounds. Senior Skylar Ebner (Muncy, Pa./Muncy Area) followed with a 40-second pin of Adam Mears for the 32nd of his career, as Lycoming rounded out its fourth 40-point win of the year.

The Warriors' 17 wins are the most for the program since 2004-05, when the team finished 20-5, and it is tied for the 12th-most wins in a season in program history.

The Warriors wrap up the regular season on Sunday, Feb. 12, when they head to Keystone for a 2 p.m. dual meet.
