WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -Â Having secured the automatic berth from the MAC Commonwealth, the Lycoming College men's basketball team will kick off the 2016 NCAA Division III Championship with a first-round game against fourth-ranked Christopher Newport on Friday, March 4, at 7:30 p.m.

Lycoming (19-9 overall) had an exceptional run to reach the tournament, winning three games on the road as the fifth and final seed in the MAC Commonwealth Championship. The Warriors were led by sophomore
Chris Wallace, the conference tournament MVP, during the run, as he averaged 15.7 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.Â

The Captains (26-1 overall) are riding a 17-game winning streak into tournament play after winning the Capital Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday with a 68-67 overtime victory over Salisbury.
Warrior Notes• The Warriors are advancing to the NCAA Championship for the first time since 2010, as the team has earned an automatic berth for just the third time. Lycoming won MAC Freedom titles in 2002 and 2004 and also earned at-large berths in 1985, 1996 and 2010.
• The Warriors are 8-13 all-time in the state of Virginia, but 13-11 all-time against teams from the state. Lycoming is 11-9 all-time against opponents from the Capital Athletic Conference.
• Lycoming is looking for its 20th win of the season for the fifth time in program history and the first since 2010.
• This is the first time the Warriors have played a ranked opponent since an 81-73 win over 22nd-ranked Messiah on Feb. 5, 2014.
• The Warriors are seventh in Division III with 735 free throw attempts, ninth in turnover margin (5.4) and 13th in turnovers forced (18.39).
• During the MAC Commonwealth Championship, the Warriors shot 53 percent (85-of-161) from the field and 48 percent (15-of-31) from 3-point range.
