WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -Â With one of the team's best performances of the season in the MAC Commonwealth Championship first round on Monday night, the No. 5-seed Lycoming College men's basketball team is now set for a rematch with No. 1-seed Alvernia University in the conference semifinals on Wednesday night, Feb. 24, at McCloskey Court.
The Warriors (17-9 overall) cruised past Stevenson, 89-75, in the opening round of the tournament, shooting a season-best 56 percent from the field and placing all five starters in double figures to cruise to the win. Junior
Nykolas King led the way with 21 points.
Alvernia (15-10 overall) claimed the top seed in the MAC Commonwealth Championship by posting an 11-5 record in league play, as the team finished the year by winning 10 of its last 13 games, aided greatly by the play of junior Marquis Marshall, who is averaging 19.4 points per game.
Warrior Notes• Since joining the MAC Commonwealth in 2008, the Warriors are tied with Albright for the most championship tournament appearances with six.
• This is the 25th time in program history that the Warriors have qualified for a Middle Atlantic Conference postseason event. The team won MAC Freedom titles in 2002 and 2004.
• Alvernia has won both matchups with Lycoming in the MAC Commonwealth Championship, including a 96-74 win in the conference semifinals in 2015.
• With a win over Alvernia, Lycoming would earn its second straight 18-win season for just the second time in school history (1995-96, '96-97).
• The Warriors need just seven more points to become the 10th team in program history to score 2,000 in a season.

Alex Newbold averaged 17.5 points, 3.5 assists and 3.0 steals in the two games with Alvernia this year. Freshman
T.J. Duckett is also averaging 17.5 points with 10 3-pointers and sophomore
Chris Wallace is posting 13.0 points and 12.5 rebounds.
