WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – After seeing its three-game winning streak snapped at FDU-Florham on Saturday, the Lycoming College women's soccer team will look to get back on track on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 30, when it will host Penn College in the sixth annual Battle for the Lumber at 3:30 p.m. at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
The Warriors (6-3 overall) have one of the top scoring offenses in the MAC Commonwealth, averaging 3.1 goals per game. The team is led by senior
Meghenn Jackson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck/Anne Arundel C.C.), who is 15
th in the nation with 1.33 goals per game. Sophomore
Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) is a welcome compliment, sitting fourth in the MAC Commonwealth with 0.89 goals per game and third with 2.22 points.
Penn College (4-4-2 overall) has posted a 3-1-1 mark in its last five games, including a 2-1 win over SUNY Cobleskill in its last outing on Sunday.
Robyn Beddow and
Christina Weber each have three goals and an assist to lead the squad, which averages 1.5 goals per game.
Lycoming is looking to keep the Lumber after posting a 4-2 win at Penn College in 2014. Lazartich led the team, posting three goals in the win. Penn College earned the trophy in 2012-13 and Lycoming won the first two meetings in the trophy series in 2010-11.
The trophy game is named in honor of the history of the city of Williamsport as the Lumber Capitol of the World in the late 1800s. Perhaps appropriately, the trophies will travel a block away from Millionaire's Row en route to the Shangraw Athletic Complex. Millionaire's Row, located on Fourth Street in Williamsport, is the most visible remaining link to that period, as large 100-plus year-old mansions line the street, showing the unique prosperity that the city embraced during that period.
