Warriors fall twice in opening day of Lycoming Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior Kristine Jahn (Enola, Pa./Cumberland Valley) led the Lycoming College volleyball team with 23 kills during its opening two matches at the Lycoming Invitational on Friday, Sept. 11, but the team dropped 3-0 decisions to York and Elizabethtown.
 
In the opening match against York, Jahn led the team with 12 kills and hitting .400, but a hot-hitting York was able to post a 3-0 (25-19, 27-25, 25-17) win.
 
York (2-5 overall) hit .291 in the match, including .367 (14-3-30) in the third set, led by 13 kills from Eryn Brady, eight from Kelly Cavey and seven from Brooke Crebs. Sarah Wukitch notched a double-double with 29 assists and 10 digs and Katherine Graziano added 19 digs.
 
Lycoming (3-3 overall) also got eight kills from junior Maggie Slawson (Armagh, Pa./United) and six from junior Lauren Fink (York, Pa./West York). The pair also added nine and 12 kills respectively, while freshmen Kyra Beltrandi (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Emily Hepner (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) each had nine digs. Senior Bethany Richardson (York, Pa./West York) added four kills and three blocks. Sophomore Catherine Burger (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) added 30 assists and five digs.
 
Jahn again led the team with nine kills against Elizabethtown, but the Blue Jays hit .296 to post a 3-0 (25-13, 27-25, 25-12) sweep in the nightcap match.
 
Fink registered eight kills and 10 digs and both Richardson and junior Tayler Whitman (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff) each added six kills. Whitman also led the team with two blocks. Hepner led the squad with 15 digs and Burger posted 30 assists and six digs.
 
Elizabethtown (5-2 overall) was led by 11 kills from Juliana Mowen and seven from Janae Moran. Steph High posted 31 assists and 11 digs and Shannon Deck led the team with 15 digs. Mackenzie Garner posted six blocks and four kills.
 
The Warriors get back in action on Saturday, Sept. 12, when they wrap up the Lycoming Invitational by facing Allegheny at 9:30 a.m. and Pitt-Bradford at 1:30 p.m.
