Warriors open conference tournament against defending champs

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - After running away with the top-seed in the Commonwealth Conference Tournament, the Lycoming College men's basketball team will open its quest for the conference title by facing two-time defending champions, Alvernia University, in the conference semifinal on Wednesday, Feb. 25, in Lamade Gym.

The Warriors (18-7 overall, 13-3 Commonwealth) finished in first place by three games. in the regular season to finish first in the conference for the third time since joining the Commonwealth Conference in 2007-08.

The Crusaders (16-9 overall, 10-6 Commonwealth) opened the Commonwealth Conference Tournament on Monday, Feb. 23, with an 87-80 win over Arcadia. Junior Charles Cooper led the way with 31 points.

Warrior Notes
• The Warriors are 4-0 all-time in Commonwealth Conference semifinals, beating Lebanon Valley in 2008, Elizabethtown in 2010, Widener in 2012 and Albright in 2013.

• With 174 career 3-pointer made, senior Patrick Dougher needs one more to move past Geoff Boblick (1994-98) into seventh in the school's career record book.

• Dougher is two steals shy of becoming the 14th player in school history to notch 100 in a career.

• With 219 career assists, senior Malcolm Covington needs seven more to move past Andy Rutherford (1995-98) for ninth in the school's career record book.

• With 52 steals, freshman Alex Newbold needs two more to move past James Oberlies (2009-10) for eighth in the school's single-season record book.

• The team's 10 freshmen have accounted for 1026 of the team's 1879 points (55 percent).
