Warriors ready for pivotal conference matchup with Lions

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Coming off a tough loss to perennial conference frontrunner Widener, the Lycoming College women's basketball team will look to get back on track on Wednesday night, Jan. 7, as it hosts a strong Albright squad in Lamade Gym.

The Warriors (9-3 overall, 2-2 Commonwealth) fell in their last outing to Widener, 68-46, as the team shot a season-low 26 percent from the field. Freshman Shelby Mueller led the team with 15 points and senior Janelle Ziminski added nine points and three steals.

The Lions (8-4 overall, 2-2 Commonwealth) are coming off a heartbreaking 57-55 loss to conference-leading Stevenson. The squad is out to an impressive start, as it beat Widener, 76-69, and 2014 NCAA Tournament team Lebanon Valley, 75-73, in December to kick off league play.

Warrior Notes
• With a win, the Warriors can reach 10 wins at the earliest point in a season in program history, besting the 2008-09 team that reached the mark on Jan. 17.

• The Warriors have won nine of the last 10 meetings with the Lions, but the margin of victory in those wins is an average of just five points per win. Six of the last 10 meetings have been decided by two points or less.

• Senior Ali Derr needs two more points to become the 27th player in school history to reach 600 in a career.

• Derr is also 16 rebounds shy of becoming the 19th player in school history to reach 400 in a career.

• With 143 career steals, senior Janelle Ziminski is five shy of eighth in school history, where Amy Bauman (1989-93) sits with 148.

• Sophomore Nicole Calella needs one more assist to become the eighth player in school history to post 50 in back-to-back seasons.
