Warriors split with King’s

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Senior Dan Woods (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg North) and junior Josh Thomas (Fort Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran) won three individual events each to lead the Lycoming College men's swim team to a convincing 156-89 win over King's in a Middle Atlantic Conference dual meet on Saturday, Jan. 24, at the Catholic Youth Center, while senior Alexia Follweiler (New Ringgold, Pa./Panther Valley) added two wins to lead the women's team, which fell in a tight 135-126 decision to the Monarchs.

The dual meet was initially a double dual with FDU-Florham, but the Devils were unable to travel due to weather conditions.

Woods posted wins in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.13), 100-yard freestyle (50.69) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:08.45) and Thomas added wins in the 200-yard butterfly (2:06.41), the 200-yard backstroke (2:06.88) and the 100-yard butterfly (55.20). Woods finished his career by winning his last 10 individual dual meets, a stretch that started when he was beaten in the 100-yard backstroke on Nov. 16, 2014 at Misericordia.

Junior Trevor Endler (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) added a pair of wins in the breaststroke, winning the 100 in 1:03.59 and the 200 in 2:22.20 and junior Dan Apostolu (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) posted wins in the 50-yard freestyle (22.65) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:26.29). Freshman Andrew Canavan (Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) also added a win in the 100-yard backstroke (59.10).

The Warrior men also won both relay races, with Canavan, Endler, Thomas and freshman Eric Ahlberg (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) posting a time of 1:44.08 in the 200-yard medley relay and freshman Codie Malloy (South Montrose, Pa./Montrose Area), Ahlberg, Apostolu and Woods notched a time of 1:34.53 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

The men's team improved to 6-3 overall while King's fell to 3-7 overall.

On the women's side, the Warriors (5-4 overall) won the last two events to close a 19-point gap down to a final margin of 10 points, but they couldn't overcome a King's squad that won eight of the 14 events to secure its first win over the Warriors since 1992.

Follweiler led the team with wins in the 200-yard freestyle (2:06.65) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:24.99), while she finished second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.92).

The Warriors posted wins in both breaststroke events, with junior Jilly Flynn (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) notching a time of 1:15.70 to win the 100 and sophomore Jess Wimmer (Souderton, Pa./Souderton Area) notched a 2:41.49 to take the 200. Senior Brigid Clark (Wyndmoor, Pa./Springfield) also added a time of 27.13 to take the 50-yard freestyle.
