WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - With the second half of the Commonwealth Conference season set to start, the Lycoming College women's basketball team will look to get an important win when it hosts Alvernia University on Saturday, Jan. 24, at Lamade Gym.
After falling victim to a late rally by the Crusaders (6-10 overall, 2-6 Commonwealth) in the first meeting, the Warriors (11-6 overall, 3-5 Commonwealth) will likely need a win in the rematch to keep pace for the fifth and final playoff spot in the conference playoffs.
Lycoming is coming off a pair of major wins, as it beat Lebanon Valley on the road for the first time since 2006 on Jan. 14 before posting a 59-57 win over King's on Jan. 19, the team's first win over the Monarchs since 2009. Junior
Olivia Manges hit the game-winning jumper with 5.5 seconds remaining.
Warrior Notes• Three Warriors are amongst the Commonwealth Conference's top 10 in steals, with senior
Janelle Ziminski fourth (2.3), junior
Chelsea Henderson fifth (2.1) and sophomore
Nicole Calella 10th (1.7).
• With 150 career steals, Ziminski is one shy of seventh in school history, where Jen Reimer (1990-94) sits with 151.
• Ziminski is also five points shy of becoming the 39th player in school history to reach 500 in a career.
• Senior
Ali Derr became the 19th player in school history to reach 400 in a career with her third of six against King's.
• Derr needs five rebounds to become the 26th player in school history to grab 100 in back-to-back seasons.
• Freshman
Shelby Mueller is five rebounds shy of reaching 100 in her career. She would be the first freshman to post 100 since Julia Antonelli had 142 in 2010-11.
