Warriors sweep Senior Day meet with Arcadia

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Dan Woods (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg North) won three individual events and senior Alexia Follweiler (New Ringgold, Pa./Panther Valley) won two events to lead the Lycoming College swim teams to a Middle Atlantic Conference sweep of Arcadia on Saturday, Jan. 17, at Lamade Gym Natatorium. The men's team notched a 148-114 win and the women's squad added a 144-112 victory.
 
Woods led the men's team, posting victories in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.75), the 100-yard freestyle (48.78) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:02.14) and he anchored the winning 200-yard freestyle relay (1:31.87) team that also included junior Dan Apostolu (Springfield, Pa./Springfield), freshman Charlie Pletz (Robesonia, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) and freshman Eric Ahlberg (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe).
 
Junior Josh Thomas (Fort Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran) also had two wins for the Warriors (5-3 overall, 5-3 MAC), posting a time of 2:02.89 in the 200-yard butterfly and 54.74 in the 100-yard butterfly. Pletz won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:10.89, Apostolu took the 50-yard freestyle in 22.99 and junior Trevor Endler (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) added a win in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:19.61).
 
The 200-yard medley team of freshman Andrew Canavan (Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell), Endler, Thomas and Apostolu also notched a winning time of 1:41.33.
 
Eric Lam and Matthew Morano led the Knights (5-4 overall, 4-4 MAC) with two individual wins each.
 
Follweiler won all three of her races on Senior Day to lead the women's team to their 144-112 win, as she notched victories in the 200-yard butterfly (2:33.47), the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.86) and served on the third leg of the winning 200-yard medley relay (2:00.56) team along with senior BethAnn Schwoyer (Williamsport, Pa./Home-schooled), junior Jilly Flynn (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) and senior Brigid Clark (Wyndmoor, Pa./Springfield).
 
Clark also had a great Senior Day, winning the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.15), the 50-yard freestyle (27.11) and finishing second in the 100-yard freestyle. Flynn added two individual wins for the Warriors (5-3 overall, 5-3 MAC), as she posted wins in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:17.42) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:50.68) in her second meet of the season after returning from a semester abroad.
 
Sophomore Jess Wimmer (Souderton, Pa./Souderton Area) added a win in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 12:17.95 and the 200-yard freestyle relay team of sophomore Madison Walmer (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata), junior Tenninger Kellenbarger (Encitas, Calif./LaCosta Canyon), sophomore Morgan Black (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) and Schwoyer posted a time of 1:50.74 to earn a win.
 
Whitney Boeckel and Lillie Curtis led the Knights (4-5 overall, 3-5 MAC) with two individual wins each.
 
Both programs clinched non-losing dual-meet seasons for the 14th straight season under head coach Jerry Hammaker, as both are two meets above .500 with two meets remaining.
 
During the meet, the Warriors honored the program's nine seniors – Clark, Follweiler, Emily Grusholt (Mechanicsville, Md./Chopticon), Danielle Loiseau (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield), Schwoyer, T.J. Guminski (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), Kyle Petchock (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery), Aaron Slagle (Waynesburg, Ohio/Sandy Valley) and Woods.
 
The Warriors get back in the pool when they head to the Wilkes-Barre Catholic Youth Center for a double-dual with King's and FDU-Florham on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 2 p.m.
