WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior 197-pounder
Johnathan Secor (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) and sophomore 141-pounder
Seth Lansberry (Klingerstown, Pa./Line Mountain) each wrapped up perfect runs at the Budd Whitehill National Duals, helping the Lycoming College wrestling team finish in third-place, the team's best finish at the event since 2006, as the Warriors fell to Williams, 24-12, in the semifinals before posting a 22-18 win over Thiel in the third-place match on Saturday, Jan. 10, at Lamade Gym.
Â
The Warriors (11-3 overall) finished the duals with a 4-1 overall mark. Lycoming opened up the tournament with three wins on Friday, Jan. 9, to win their group and advance into the championship group on Saturday. The Warriors downed Wis.-Stevens Point, 19-13, Case Western Reserve, 39-15, and 28
th-ranked Coast Guard, 18-17 on criteria.
Â
In the third-place match, the Warriors and Wildcats (6-4 overall) split five matches, but Lycoming earned bonus points in three bouts to post their first win in three meetings against the Western Pennsylvania school.
Â
A forfeit gave Lycoming an early lead and a pin by senior
Caleb Willey (Towanda, Pa./Towanda Area) added a pin against Trevor Wood in the second period before Lansberry posted a 7-1 win over Nick Sutton to make it 15-6. Thiel cut the lead to three points with a pin, but sophomore
Nolan Barger (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield) got the lead back to six points with a 4-2 win over Chris Nuss.
Â
Thiel won the next two bouts to make it 18-15, but Secor sealed the win with a  10-0 major decision against Ryan Kenski.
Â
In the semifinals, Williams (6-0 overall) used two pins and four straight wins from 157-184 pounds to clinch a 24-12 win. The Warriors dropped three matches in the bout by a single point, which created the final margin of victory.
Â
After two narrow single-point bouts at 125 and 133 pounds, the Warriors fought back to tie the bout with wins at 141 and 149 pounds. Willey provided the first win, a 5-1 complete victory over Gabriel Corrochano and Lansberry followed with a 4-3 win over Jake Savoca, scoring a first-period takedown and adding two escapes to score the win.
Â
With match tied at six after four bouts, the Ephs took over with 18 points in the next four bouts. The Warrior upperweights ended the rally, with Secor posting a 5-2 win over Anthony Brooks at 197 pounds and senior
Sam Batchelor (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone) providing a 3-1 win over Ben Wertz at heavyweight.
