Warriors fall twice at Marymount

ARLINGTON, Va. – Facing two two-loss teams on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 20, the Lycoming College volleyball team fell in both ends of a tri-match at Marymount University, falling to Washington (Md.), 3-1 (18-25, 25-16, 25-17, 27-25) and the host Saints, 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-12), in non-conference action.
 
Three Warriors (9-7 overall) posted 10 kills against the Shoreman (10-2 overall) in the tri-meet opener, but the team could not complete a late comeback in the fourth set to force a deciding fifth set.
 
The Warriors trailed in the fourth set, 21-16, but roared back to tie it at 23 after five points off the serve of sophomore Tayler Whitman (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff). However, the team could not take advantage of two set points, and a kill by Jess Daunoras and an attack error by Lycoming closed out the match.
 
Sophomore Lauren Fink (York, Pa./West York), junior Bethany Richardson (York, Pa./West York) and sophomore Kristine Jahn (Enola, Pa./Cumberland Valley) each posted 10 kills to lead the Warriors, with Jahn adding 11 digs and Fink posting six. Whitman led the team with 12 digs and also added six kills. Freshman Catherine Burger (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) added 39 assists and nine digs.
 
Kristin Lee led the Shoreman with 13 kills and four blocks and both Daunoras and Alexis Jordan each added 10 kills. Sarah Bentley added 35 assists and Amy Rohn notched 13 digs and five aces.
 
Marymount (14-2 overall) hit .393 in the second match to cruise to the straight sets victory over the Warriors.
 
Jahn led the Warriors with seven kills and Richardson added five. Fink led the team with seven digs while Whitman and senior Kristin Whitehead (Avon, Ohio/Avon) each added five. Burger notched 18 assists and one block.
 
Morgan McAlpin led the Saints with 10 kills and Erin Allison added nine kills. Emileigh Rettig posted eight and Cailyn Thomas notched seven. Rettig led the team with eight digs and Allison notched three blocks. Rebecca Bateman added 21 assists.
 
The Warriors get back on the court when they head to Widener for a 7 p.m. Commonwealth Conference match on Wednesday, Sept. 24.
