WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – A solid effort that included eight saves from freshman goalkeeper Joelle Winey (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) and five shots offensively were not enough for the Lycoming College women's soccer team, as it fell to Westminster College, 1-0, in its home opener at the Shangraw Athletic Complex on Sunday, Sept. 14.

The Warriors (0-6 overall) allowed a season low in goals thanks to an outstanding defensive effort from the team's backline. Even though the Titans (5-2 overall) posted 18 shots in the game, they had few quality chances.

The Titans, however, did score in the 19th minute, as Raechel Pusateri streaked down the left sideline before crossing over and sending a shot into the right corner of the net for her second goal of the year.

Winey finished with eight saves and junior Kelly Ambruso (Stewartsville, N.J./Phillipsburg) also kicked a shot off the goal line in the 42nd minute to keep it a close game.

In the second half, the Warriors began to get more pressure forward, taking four of their five shots in the period, but the team couldn't get a shot on net. Junior Bree Nishibun (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) led the team with two shots during the half.

Westminster keeper Rachael Letscher earned the win by making one save in the first half in net. Madeline Frech played the second half.

The Warriors stay in the friendly confines of the Shangraw Athletic Complex for their next game as well, hosting Baptist Bible on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 3:30 p.m.
