Box Score 2  / Lycoming Invitational Tournament Central | Photo Gallery |WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College volleyball team made a series of valiant comebacks on Friday night, Sept. 12, taking its nightcap match with Houghton College as far as it could go and then some, but Houghton was able to sustain a third match point and hold on for a 3-2 (25-14, 19-25, 25-15, 23-25, 17-15) win to wrap up the first day of the Lycoming Invitational at Lamade Gym. In Lycoming's first match, the team lost 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-18) to Catholic.

The Warriors (7-4 overall) were able to comeback multiple times against Houghton (5-2 overall) thanks to the brilliant play of sophomore
Kristine Jahn (Enola, Pa./Cumberland Valley), who was sidelined most of the first match with an injury. She finished with a career high 21 kills and added six digs and a block.

After dropping the first set by 11 points, Jahn came alive in the second, willing the Warriors to a 25-19 win thanks to eight kills, as Lycoming hit a season-best .562 in the set (19-1-32). Houghton responded in the third with their own solid hitting performance, hitting .529 en route to a 25-15 win. The Warriors tied the match in the fourth set, thanks to a 25-23 win, with sophomores
Maggie Slawson (Armagh, Pa./United) and
Lauren Fink (York, Pa./West York) slamming down kills to end the set.

Lycoming came back from down 8-5 in the second set to take a 9-8 lead, but could never get more than a one-point lead and a Houghton finally got two points in a row with the set tied at 15 to end it.

The Warriors hit a solid .296 (67-20-159) with four players finishing in double figures in Jahn, Slawson (13) and sophomore
Tayler Whitman (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff) and junior
Bethany Richardson (York, Pa./West York), who each had 11. Richardson also offered 10 digs and three aces and Whitman notched 11 digs for a double-double.

Fink finished with eight kills and 18 digs and freshman setter
Catherine Burger (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) notched 58 assists, the sixth-most in program history.

Meagan Palm led Houghton with 17 kills and Laurel Wroblicky added 20 digs. Anna Coryell notched 54 assists and Naomi Prentice posted 12 kills and four blocks for the Highlanders.

Catholic (9-1 overall) hit a solid .366 (46-9-101) in the first match en route to the 3-0 sweep.

Richardson led the Warriors with nine kills and a block and Fink added seven kills, eight digs and six aces in a well-rounded effort. Slawson also posted seven kills and five digs and Burger notched 26 assists and eight digs.

Maria Juelle and Kathryn Herrington both led the Cardinals with 13 kills and Michelle Seals notched 38 assists, four aces and 14 digs.

The Warriors get back on the court with the final day of the Lycoming Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 13, when they face Elmira at 9:30 a.m. and Pitt-Bradford at 3:30 p.m. in Lamade Gym.
