WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – After falling in two games after being tied going into the final 30 minutes twice during the Erinn Brozman Cup at Hartwick College, the Lycoming College women's soccer team will look for its first win of the year on Tuesday, Sept. 2, when it heads to rival Susquehanna University for the eighth annual River Derby.

The trophy game, begun in 2007, has developed into a heated rivalry over the past decade, with the two squads splitting the last four games in the series, with each team scoring seven goals in that span.

The two teams have played every year since 1994, but the River Derby Cup was added to the rivalry in 2007 to compliment the men's soccer version of the rivalry, the Battle of the Boot. Since the trophy was added, the Crusaders have won four meetings, while Lycoming has won twice, with one tie in 2009.

In the past two years, the drama has been ratcheted up in the rivalry, with Susquehanna stealing a 2-1 victory in 2012, as it scored twice in the last three minutes. In 2013, the Warriors responded, getting the game into overtime, where Spencer Larson '14 headed in the game-winner for a 2-1 win.

Lycoming had solid performances during its opening weekend, but fell to Utica, 2-1, and Hartwick, 4-2. The Warriors were led by junior Meghenn Jackson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck), who notched a goal and an assist against Hartwick. Sophomore Olivia Mendler (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) and junior Katie Cox (Crownsville, Md./Old Mill) each also added tallies during the two-game tournament at Hartwick.

Susquehanna came from behind to post a 1-1 tie with King's (Pa.) in its season opener on Saturday, Aug. 30. Senior Samantha Zuponcic scored the game-tying goal in the 79th minute and sophomore Jordyn Slocum made four saves to earn the tie.
