Box Score 2 WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior
Nikki Marianelli (Old Forge, Pa./Old Forge) extended her games reached base streak to 10, but the Lycoming College softball team fell to Landmark Conference-leading Susquehanna University, 5-2 and 11-1, in the Cancer Awareness Cup at the Shangraw Athletic Complex on Wednesday afternoon, April 9.
Marianelli had a hit in each game, helping pace the Warriors (10-11 overall), who notched 11 hits during the doubleheader with the Crusaders (13-9 overall).
In the first game, the Warriors had seven runners stranded in scoring position, but the Crusaders scored five runs in the middle frames to post a 5-2 win.
The Warriors got on the board first, scoring in the second inning as sophomore
Dominique Thomas (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) singled to lead off. After a fielder's choice, sophomore
Ashley Burger (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) walked, setting up an RBI single to left by junior
Caroline Lapano (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity).
The Crusaders came back to score three in the fourth inning, using an error, two fielder's choices and RBI hits from Sarah Bush and Lauren Creamer. In the sixth, two singles led to a two-RBI single from Amanda Neveroski.
Lycoming came back in the seventh inning, as Marianelli singled up the middle to lead off. After a sacrifice, sophomore
Kristi Weaver (Milton, Pa./Milton Area) singled to left to score a run. Two outs followed, though, to end the game.
Weaver led the Warriors, going 2-for-2 with a RBI. On the mound, Weaver (7-6) tossed a complete game, allowing six hits and four earned runs. She struck out four.
Bush and Creamer each went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI. Morgan Lewis (6-5) earned the win , allowing five hits and two runs in a complete game. She walked five and struck out nine.
In the second game, the Crusaders scored seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings to break open the game and post an 11-1 six-inning run-rule shortened game.
After Susquehanna scored two runs in the first and one in the second, the Warriors cut the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the second, as sophomore
Ashley Witmer (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) doubled to runs and scored after a fielder's choice and a groundout.
The Crusaders added another run in the fourth with a homer from Neveroski and scored two more in the fifth before scoring five in the sixth to round out the win.
Witmer led the Warriors by going 2-for-3 with a run and double and Thomas went 2-for-2, as Lycoming wrapped six hits in the game.
Neveroski went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, a homer and a triple. Bush went 3-for-4 with a run and three RBI and Creamer went 2-for-4 with two doubles, a run and RBI.
Jamie Feisinstine allowed six hits and an earned run in a complete game. She walked two and struck out five. Lapano (3-5) took the loss for the Warriors, allowing seven hits and four runs in four innings.
The Warriors get back on the field on Thursday, April 10, when they head to Misericordia for a non-conference at 3 p.m.
