Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ELMIRA, N.Y. – Junior Nikki Marianelli (Old Forge, Pa./Old Forge) and sophomore Ashley Witmer (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) each posted two hits to lead the Lycoming College softball team, but a pair of stellar pitching efforts helped Elmira College pick up 5-0 and 9-1 wins in non-conference action at Eldridge Park on Wednesday afternoon, April 2.

In the first game, Alex Puglisi threw a three-hitter and also hit a two-run homer to help Elmira (3-5 overall) post a 5-0 win.

Puglisi retired the first six Warriors (5-8 overall) in the game before sophomore Dominique Thomas (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) doubled to lead off the third, but Puglisi ended the threat with no damage. In the bottom of the inning, Elmira used a leadoff double to manufacture a run, then added four runs in the fifth inning, including Puglisi's two-run blast.

Marianelli, Thomas and sophomore Shawna Risley (Howard, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) each had hits in the game for the Warriors. Emily Carlin and Mikayla Bean each led the Eagles with two hits, while Katie Dore and Puglisi each had two RBI.

Puglisi improved to 1-4 with the win, as she struck out six in the complete game. Sophomore Kristi Weaver (Milton, Pa./Milton Area) (3-4) pitched a complete game as well for the Warriors, allowing 10 hits and five runs.

In the second game, Puglisi hit a three-run homer in the fourth-inning to cap a run-rule shortened 9-1 win for the Eagles.

Elmira scored three runs in the first inning to take control, thanks to three hits and two Lycoming errors. In the third, a double by Dore led to another run. The Warriors responded with a run of their own in the top of the fourth, as Marinalli singled to center before Witmer doubled to right, setting up a sac fly from junior Caroline Lapano (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity).

The Eagles scored five runs in the bottom of the inning, though, using four hits before Puglisi hit a three-run homer to cap the inning.

Chelsie Roberts (2-1) earned the win for the Eagles, as she pitched a complete-game four-hitter, allowing one run, four hits and a walk. She struck out 10 in five innings. Lapano (2-4) took the loss, as she allowed nine hits and nine runs.

Witmer led the Warriors with two hits and a double and freshman Kelcie Crabb (Millmont, Pa./Mifflinburg) also added a double. Dore led the Eagles, as she went 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles and an RBI.

The Warriors get back on the field on Thursday, April 3, when they head to Wilkes for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
