Box Score 2 READING, Pa. – Senior
Ashley Witmer (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) led the Lycoming College softball team with four hits during Thursday, April 17's doubleheader with Commonwealth Conference foe Alvernia University, but Alvernia was able to post a 9-1 win in the first game and a 5-2 win in the nightcap.
Witmer went 3-for-3 with a double in the second game and 1-for-2 in the first game with a double to lead the Warriors (11-18 overall, 4-10 Commonwealth).
In the second game, the Warriors mounted a fifth-inning rally, but Alvernia's five-run lead was too much to overcome in the 5-2 loss.

Dominique Thomas (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) reached on an error before sophomore
Shawna Risley (Howard, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) reached on a fielder's choice. After a groundout moved both runners up a base, sophomore
Elisa Novak (Ambler, Pa./Germantown Academy) delivered a two-RBI single.
Novak moved to third after a sac bunt, but a groundout ended the inning. In the sixth, Witmer led off with a double and moved to third, but was left stranded at the bag.
Samantha Penk got the Crusaders (17-9 overall, 8-4 Commonwealth) on the board in the third with a solo homer and Amanda Galantic added an RBI double. In the fourth inning, Felicia McKenna added a three-run homer to give Alvernia a 5-0 lead.
Galantic went 2-for-3 with a RBI and McKenna went 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBI.
Brianna Fisher (6-0) earned the win, tossing seven innings and allowing four hits and no earned runs. Junior
Caroline Lapano (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity) (3-8) also tossed a complete game for the Warriors, allowing seven hits and five runs. She struck out four and walked two.
In the first game, the Crusaders posted nine runs in the first three innings en route to the 9-1, five-inning win.
The Crusaders used two hits for a first-inning run, then notched five in the second inning thanks to three hits, two errors and a hit batter.
The Warriors scored their lone run in the third inning, as freshman
Ashley Burger (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) reached on an error, moved to second on a groundout and scored on an double by sophomore
Kristi Weaver (Milton, Pa./Milton Area).
The Crusaders, however, secured the run-rule win with four runs in the third inning, thanks to three hits and a hit batter.
Galantic went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI and Amanda Turner went 2-for-3 with three RBI. Katie Manowski also added two runs and two RBI thanks to a two-RBI triple.
In the circle, Weaver (8-9) tossed four innings, allowing eight hits and four earned runs. Brittanie Wolfe (9-7) tossed five innings, allowing two hits and no earned runs.
The Warriors wrap up the Commonwealth Conference season on Friday, April 18, when they host Albright in a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader.
