Matt McCaffer (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) scored five goals and junior
Sean Reilly (Corning, N.Y./Corning Painted Post West) added three goals and four assists to lead the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team to a 15-5 win over Alvernia University in Commonwealth Conference action at Schlager Memorial Field on Saturday afternoon, March 29.
The Warriors (4-5 overall, 2-0 Commonwealth) won their fourth straight game after peppering Alvernia (2-8 overall, 0-2 Commonwealth) with 49 shots while allowing just 26. The Warriors also held a solid 35-23 advantage in ground balls, won 14-of-22 faceoffs and forced 22 Alvernia turnovers.
Lycoming started quick with a pair of goals in the first 3:06, but Alvernia responded with two of the next three goals before the end of the quarter. The Warriors began to take control in the middle two quarters, though, scoring eight straight goals, led by three from McCaffer during the run and a goal and two assists from both Reilly and sophomore

Lee Pappas (New Windsor, Md./Glenelg Country School) wrapped up the run with a goal with 4:57 left in the second half, the Warriors held an 11-2 lead. Alvernia scored two of the next three goals to end the quarter, but in the fourth period, Lycoming continued to score, using three unassisted goals to take a 15-4 lead before Alvernia scored the game's final tally with 5:01 left.
Reilly finished with three goals, four assists and five ground balls. Sophomore
Michael Wagner (Pasadena, Md./St. Mary's) posted two goals, an assist and four ground balls and Cooper added a goal, two assists and five ground balls. Junior
John Scarponi (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) won 13-of-18 faceoffs at the 'x' and both junior
Joe Marchetti (Cortland, N.Y./Homer) and freshman
Jacob Eller (Durham, N.C./Riverside) caused two turnovers.
Mallory Pierre scored twice for the Crusaders and Benjamin Manning notched a goal and assist. Alex Evans scooped up four ground balls and Brett Gerdels caused two turnovers.
In net, junior
Alex Wylly (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) (4-5) stopped eight shots to earn the win. Brandon Weaver (2-8) stopped 14 shots for Alvernia.
The Warriors finally end a five-game road trek when they host Messiah on Wednesday, April 2, in a key Commonwealth Conference game at 3:30 p.m.
