OWINGS MILLS, Md. – A late rally to pull within two points came up just short for the Lycoming College women's basketball team, as it fell, 57-53, in Commonwealth Conference action to Stevenson University on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 8, at the Owings Mills Gymnasium.

The Warriors (9-11 overall, 6-8 Commonwealth) fought back from down 18 points, 45-27, with 15:03 remaining, as a pair of buckets by junior
Ali Derr (New Columbia, Pa./Milton Area) spurred on a 22-6 run that was capped on a jumper by senior
Julia Antonelli (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) with 5:02 left.

After both teams missed 3-pointers, the Mustangs (12-9 overall, 10-4 Commonwealth) scored four straight points, but the Warriors wouldn't bow out easily, as sophomore
Victoria Siebecker (Annville, Pa./Annville-Cleona) hit a jumper and Antonelli hit a pair of free throws to close back within a pair at 55-53 with 2:36 left.

Caitlin Roy hit a layup for Stevenson with 1:24 left and both teams struggled to find the net for the next minute before sophomore
Chelsea Henderson (Yonkers, N.Y./Yonkers) hit a layup on a give by sophomore
Olivia Manges (York, Pa./West York) with 26 seconds left to make it 59-57. After a foul, Roy hit two more free throws, but Antonelli responded with a jumper 10 seconds later. Another foul by Lycoming led to two free throws from Stevenson to round out the scoring.

In the first half, the Warriors jumped out to a 10-4 lead, as Derr led the run with four points. However, Stevenson used a 6-0 run to tie the game and took the lead for good on a jumper by Kayleigh Guzek with 9:12 remaining in the first half. The Warriors stayed close for most of the half, closing within three points at 23-20 with 4:53 left on a layup by Manges, but the Mustangs closed the half on a 11-0 run to take a 34-20 lead into the break.

In the first five minutes of the second half, the Mustangs used an opening 5-1 run to get the lead to 18 points before the two teams alternated buckets until Lycoming started its closing run with 15:03 left.

Antonelli led the Warriors with 13 points and 10 rebounds and freshman
Nicole Calella (Sandyston, N.J./Kittatinny Regional) added 10 points, five rebounds and two steals. Manges posted seven points and five assists and Derr contributed nine points, eight rebounds and three blocks.

Kayla Kelly led the Mustangs with 23 points and nine rebounds and Guzek posted 10 points and two steals. Roy posted eight points, eight rebounds and two blocks.

With four games remaining in the season, the Warriors are one game out of the fifth and final playoff spot, as Widener has a 7-7 mark in conference games.

The Warriors get back on the court with a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader against Lebanon Valley on Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Dutch Burch Court at Lamade Gym. The women tip at 6 p.m. before the men play at 8 p.m.
